Pregnancy and herpes

Posted , 4 users are following.

This really happened... I had intercourse with my partner on the Thursday, was inseminated at my fertility clinic Saturday morning, started feeling symptoms of my first herpes (genital) outbreak by Sunday, had blisters by Wednesday. I just got the call from hospital that it is indeed HSV2.

Does anyone know if there is an effect on conception?

Thank you for your time

Please speak with 'Feelbroken' on this forum who certainly knows a lot more than the rest of us on this forum about your condition.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear. I do not know what can happen when you catch herpes while pregnant, from what I've read, is it can actually cause death and/or severe neurological issues if infected while pregnant. I would go see a gyno immediately to discuss this and you need to be started on meds immediately if you haven't. Do not wait, this is very serious. Did the doctors say anything to you about this when yiu got tested?

      Thank you for responding.

The Doctor on call in Emerg said it shouldn't make a difference at this beginning stage. That if I am successful with conception the baby will develop the same antibodies that I do and that the concern comes when I give birth.

But I was in such a frazzled state I forgot to ask if herpes would effect conception (egg getting fertilized and implantation).

I haven't read anything that states it effects the baby in utero.

The thing is, you haven't developed antibodies yet when you first get it. My blood test taken 6 days after infection was negative, culture was positive.

That is true for if you already have it and get pregnant, but I think there is a lot of gray area in your situation. Lemme do some reading and get back to you.
