Pregnant HS Sufferer

Hi all. I have been suffering with HS since i was 13 (altho like many of you i wasn't given a name for it for many many years) and am now 27. I suffer with lumps in my groin and buttocks, and have been on so many antibiotics, roaccutane, and the last treatment was a water tablet called spironalactone. Nothing has shown any lasting effect, altho the roaccutane did give the longest respite (but was then suspected to have triggered a lengthy bought of depression). I have come off all treatment now as i am pregnant. The dermatologist was confident that the changing hormone levels would result in an improvement in my condition, but this has not happened. The link with hormones has never seemed accurate in my case. I'm now into my last month of pregnancy and am suffering a flare up in my groin. Not only is it adding to the discomfort i'm already experiencing due to the expanded waistline and the sleeplessness (!), i'm really nervous about the possibility of having a flare up when i come to give birth. Has anyone any experience of HS and pregnancy/birth please? Any insights greatly appreciated.

I suffered terribly during both my pregnancies. My doctors have said that HS should be better during pregnancy, but I had my worst flare ups ever.

I wasnt allowed to give natural birth due to it sad Because they know so little about HS they werent taking any chances.

After my C-sections it eased considerably and I hardly had any lumps until I started menstruating again.

Good luck with the birth :D And I hope you have a lump free phase after the birth like I did

hi there im janet aged 35 ive had hs since my teens altho it wasnt diagnosed until about 7 years ago iwas suffering from the boils in my groin are all through my teens and i was pregnant at the age of 19, i was dreading going to the hospital because of the redness and weeping sores, when i went into labour and the nurse asked me to open my legs so they could check how far i was dialated i could of died, i cried of embarassment, and just blurted out i have got boils, she asked where they was and i just showed her, she looked at me and just said thats ok, and asked what had caused them etc, i felt better because we just started chatting about what ive been doing to cure them etc, it was still embarrassing but im sure you`ll be fine, and i bet by now they have seen other cases just explain ur condition or get ur gp to give u letter to take with you. its 16 years since i gave birth so im sure theyve seen worse. ive been to London to see a proffessor in skin conditions, and he told me that a drug called infliximab will cure my hs, and he promised me i would be cured within 12 months, that was 3 years ago, the problem being that manchester where i live dont have the funding for that drug and i have been fighting for funding since then, i recently wrote to the prof in london and told him i cant get the funding to which he has since replied, and says he will write to the pdc because i have severe hs and says i should of been on the drug long ago, im dreading going to my derma because i feel as tho i have kicked a few arses lol. but im fed up now of being passed about from here to there, hope all goes well with the birth keep your chin up bye for now janet, i have just created a user account on this site under the name of jolto, so hope to catch up soon xx
