Preparing for Aquablation procedure - some questions

Posted , 3 users are following.

I'm scheduled to have an Aquablation surgery in a couple of weeks. I have an enlarged prostate and have had two incidents of Acute Urinary Retention in the past year. Both incidents resulted in visits to a hospital emergency room. After discussions with my urologist, I've decided to have the Aquablation surgery.

My understanding is that during the surgery an ultrasound scan is taken through the rectum. What bowel preparation, including diet, is needed before the surgery? Would the diet be the same as preparing for a colonoscopy (no seeds, no fruits with skins, etc.)?

It depends on the doctor's preference. My doctor had no special prep for the transrectal ultrasound. However, just to be on the safe side and provide as clear an image as possible, I used the prep you suggested for a colonoscopy.

You can either use an enema the morning of the procedure, or use a prep similar to that of a colonoscopy. I did the latter, by using Miralax the evening before, and did not eat after breakfast the day before surgery.
