Preventing transmission

Just had a quick question..I have had cold sores before..there is a girl I am pursuing and she had genital hsv 1..we talked about it..was just curious if there is any new risk I would be taking by giving oral..she was initially diagnosed 6 years ago..had been on Valtrex since and rarely if ever has break outs..from what I've read there can still be shedding even without break outs..what are the odds I would have it transmitted to me if she isn't having a break out and using a condom? Thank you

if youve had cold sores orally you have HSV 1 and if she has HSV 1 genitally than she has HSV 1 gentially. once you have the virus and it outbreaks its really rare that it moves to another spot in the body but can happen. With antivirals in the mix and a condom of some kinds risk of transmission goes down to less that 25% . But it sounds like you both have HSV 1 just in different locations.

I've seen somewhere a very low percentage risk per year, when using condom and antivirals. Transmission from female to male is lower also than vice versa.
But remember that the fact that you already have oral HSV-1 doesn't change anything in regards of the risk of you getting Genital HSV-1 when having vaginal sex.

if you already have hsv1 orally and have had an outbreak it is pretty uncommon to get herpes wit though or herpes in or on another mucous membrane like the oral cavity
