I am post op 3 weeks exactly have had open surgery and had to have my right ovary removed. It was a shock to find out that I had a 15lbs of a cyst growing inside of me. I am scared of this happening again to my left one. Has anyone any suggestions for prevention. I am due to see my consultant for follow up in 3 weeks time?

I don't really have any answers, but I'm sure the gynae consultant will have ideas. My cyst was huge too and I'm glad I had everything out as I was worried about a cyst growing on my right ovary. But, of course, that's not an option for people who want to maintain their fertility.
Hope you get some answers.

I honestly don’t think there is any preventative measure but I’m sure your gynaecologist will be keeping an eye on you.
Just out of interest what symptoms did you have with a cyst that size? I was in pain with a 5cm one!! xx

At my 3 week, I was told I need to decide if I want kids or not because it is best practice to remove everything. However, mine was cancer so if yours was benign they might not be as extreme. In the next 5 years, they want to remove the other ovary and the uterus just to be safe since they said they don't really know what caused my right ovary to produce a huge cancerous cyst. I also am scheduled to go in every 3 months for an ultrasound. My first one is in November so no idea what that will be like yet. I was shocked to when I found out the size of mine. So crazy.
I don't think there really is a prevention I think either you are prone to have them or you don't. If there is a cause they seem to not understand it. Some people suggest birth control. But I don't even think that is always effective. I have seen a lot of snake oil salesmen online saying they have herb mixtures and such that cures you of cysts and prevents them. But I just can't take them seriously either.
