Probiotic Yoghurt

Hello,

I'm a 3rd year child branch student nurse, aged 20. I've got IBS (Self diagnosed... Have been to a doctor, but not my GP, who wasn't overly helpful), so was reading NICE Guidance yesterday, and it suggested trying a Probiotic yoghurt. I tried for a week before and I think I was put off by the taste.

The guidance says to try for four weeks, so I'm going to give it another go. Can anyone recommend one that doesn't taste too bad, and has worked for them? Appreciate that what works for one, might not for me though, and that ultimately I might just have to stomach the taste to reduce my symptoms but any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

Joel

My advice, forget them all and make your own. I do and I won't buy yoghurt again. I use the Easiyo yoghurt maker but no longer buy the sachets. So simple to make your own. All the best, Steve

I use the Euro Cuisine and I love it, because most store brands contain other things I'm allergic to. The problem with making your own is getting the right consistency. There is a bit of a science to it, but once you get it down, it works pretty well.

No science if you follow the instructions. Making Yorkshire pudding is more difficult 😊

Maybe your machine is easier than the Euro Cuisine? I know mine can either turn into sticky glue or runny goo if you aren't exactly perfect.

Hi Stephen, Jay here, some people can't eat Yogurt. Like myself, it causes mucus in my sinses and it gives me a sinsus headache you will not believe.  For years I thought I was having Migraines, but it turned out to be muscu in my sinses and they had to insert a tube in order for the mucus to come out, and I try so hard to leave the yogurt alone, but sometimes, (because i love yogurt), I have one cup, but, it always leaves my pillow soaking wet in the AM'S. and this is what I have found out about my children also, but my husband can eat 2 and 3 a day and have no problems(and for his blood type, he is suppose to eat it everyday 3 and 4 times a day). Thanks for the tip on the yogurt maker, maybe I can get one to make my husbands. Jay

Hi Joel, I ate ativia, It's really good and very good for digestive problems, and it even helped me after I was on it for 4 weeks, but for me, I had to stop taking it because it caused too much mucus in my head and I had a very bad sinsus infection because of the buildup of the mucus.  Now, my husband is eating it twice a day, because it's helping him stay regular. I take Probiotics everyday again, and they work wonders, look them up on line and see how they help. Just make sure you ask your doctor before taking any herb or meds, and also get them from a Professional Health Food Store or Herblist.  Praying for your recovery, and that you get healed.

Can you buy Kefir, it's a powerful probiotic many many strains mainly the lactobacillus ones, and you can buy bifidobacterium in capsules, and eat prebiotic foods, cut down of on fibre especially insoluble fibre, plenty of info online.
