Probiotics for Acid Reflux, Headaches, Sinusitis

Posted , 29 users are following.

Hello there and thanks for reading this. I had terrible problems with ear ache, blocked ear, constant headaches, blocked nose, face pain, wheezing, coughing, fatigue etc. Was told the so called sinusitis was caused by acid reflux and I must take the usual mediciation. But this made me feel far worse so I had to stop. I then did a lot of research and tried bicarbonate of soda and it's varios mixtures, but it made it worse, the cough and wheezing got worse. What worked for me was taking live probiotics for a long time. Both in live yoghurt and in capsule form.

You have to take the right strains. This is where most go wrong. They take ANY biotics and assume they all do the same thing. That is like saying that yellow is the same as pink. Am now totally well and have been for long enough to know it is permanent.

Hello one of the doctors i have seen told me they thought my ear aches and sore throats might be caused by my indigestion, i thought she was mad as could not understand how my stomach could affect my ears. But after reading all these posts i realise i am not the only one and maybe she was right after all. Will have to consider trying the probiotics. Although years ago when i suffered bad IBS i bought some probiotic capsules but stopped taking them after they gave me stomach ache.

Hi Frances! I did research on that earache sore throat thing and it's absolutely TRUE! Your Dr is right. My Dr missed that one and he was an ENT specialist! I have a new appointment coming up with him soon, and I'm going to tell him what all I've found out. Maybe he will re-focus his diagnosis with future patients. I swear, none of us have gone to one single day of Med School, but out of desperation have found our way! I appreciate this forum so much, don't you? Well, have some stuff to get done so I better go for now. Talk to you later! 😃

    Hi Carmel,

Thank you for your comments.  Which probiotics did you take?  And, what brand?

I have severe acid reflux; chest burning, bitter taste in mouth, nasal congestion, clogged ears at times, mucus that runs down the back of my throat, etc. I would appreciate any feedback.

Hi, my husband has recently been diagnosed with silent reflux. He has the coughing, sinus issues, and bitter taste after eating. He also has extreme tightness in his neck; have you heard of this symptom? He has gone gluten free and dairy free which have virtually eliminated his chronic fatigue. We had his vitamin D checked which was super low so he is taking a supplement to increase that along with his B 12. I would love more information on the amount/type of probiotics you have found useful. Thank you; I am so happy I found this forum and look forward to hearing from you.

kimmy9599, I read on another site that magnesium is depleted when the body tries to correct the acid imbalance -- which causes tight muscles (in your husbands case in the neck).  This site stated to take magnesium supplements to help with tight muscles.  Also, Epsom salt baths can help.  Epsom salts are made of magnesium salts that are absorbed by the skin in the bath.

explained to all doctors sinus burn. burning headache mucus in mouth from sinus stngs my toungue like sucking on a hot pepper all day long constant coughing bringing up stinging mucus and sinus running and sneezing and burning all day

finally figured this burn must be acid from stomac.monday 1/25/2016 had endo scope

done no ulser nothing unusal so they took biopsy's waiting for reslts but even the gi doctors claim they never heard of reflux affecting sinus.i thought i was some kind of freak.this is 10 months of suffering i really believe that if the burning would stop the senses would come back so very interested in the kind of probiotics needed

Hi carmel83758 I am glad I found this article I am having same symptoms of burning in my throat and sinuses it almost feels like vapors from the acid in my stomach coming up and I would love to know the strain of antibiotics you used as the ppis and hitsnine blockers don't really work? I am going to get the restech ph test done today to verify reflux but I want to try natural solutions first any help would be most appreciated thank you

      Hi Shelly,

I know what you mean by it feels like vapors. Mine Burns my throat, and it burns the tongue, sinuses and ear mostly on my left side. Today even my left cheek and outside of my left ear feel on fire too! I wondered how your test went and if you have found any relief?

      Hi Melissa

I have had nose swab which found a stomach bacteria in my sinuses, restech ph which was borderline elevated, barium swallow which they said I had small sliding hiatal hernia and mild esophageal dysmotility and endoscopy that found polyps due to ppi use and mild inflammation gastritis which were both biopsied and all is normal now they want me to do manometry and 24 hr ph impedence which will be done thus Wednesday and I am terrified so no answers yet and btw the endoscopy didn't see the hernia no mention of that so I am still trying to find answers to burning sinus

I haven't found any relief. I go to an allergist tomorrow and an ENT later this month. Have they suggested anything to help with the things they have found? It seems your reflux is what's burning your sinuses if they found a stomach bacteria there. I assume that's why mine burn too. I went off of PPIs because I'm afraid of side effects, and they weren't working anyway. Did you ever try a probiotic? I'm also wondering about gluten sensitivity for myself. We'll see.

      Hi Melissa

Today I had manometry and 24 hr impedance test done I have the probe in right now I think I have a weak les how weak I don't know and I have dysmotility to thin liquids that's all I know do far

I haven't been diagnosed with reflux as of yet but I think my stomach is causing the burning too I had endoscopy done march 15 and they found mild gastritis and polyps caused by ppis both were biopsied and all benign

I too stopped omeprazole (only took one month) and now Pepcid and I have been off 1 week off that) I wasn't getting any relief from them just side effects and so I use gaviscon advance which helps but doesn't eliminate burning completely

The endoscopy didn't show h pylori or the sliding hiatal hernia that was picked up on the barium swallow

I have tried probiotics for 2 months but I still have symptoms

I am working on my diet and trying to find one that will work as I think that maybe the answer and also doing resistance esophageal exercises to help the sphincter

Let me know what the ent and allergist say as I was thinking of heading to the allergist next to check for food sensitivities/allergy

It sounds like you're getting some answers. If you have a weak LES will you get the Nissen? The allergist was great to talk to and genuinely seemed to want to help me figure this out, but he thought it would be a waste of my time and money to pursue allergies. Sigh. Still no answers. It would seem that it's probably reflux and anxiety. What worries is the specific area in the left side of my throat that hurts all the time. It makes me think the acid has done some damage there. I wish I could see the ENT sooner than the 24th.

PS, how long have you had these symptoms?
    • Posted

Hi Melissa I hope to get some answers from these 2 tests I have had today next week sometime .  I figured the allergists would say something like that and maybe that's why I hadn't rushed to see mine but he was on the list incase these tests came back normal.  I will not be getting Nissan the only procedure I would consider is stretta and that's my last resort I want to try diet first and see where that takes me and any other natural remedies asi am not big on surgery only if it's absolutely necessary

i also want you to look up something called trigeminal neuralgia it is pain in the face but one of the symptoms are pain in one side of the throat.  Now I am not saying this is what you have but read up and see if that is a possibility otherwise you will have to see if reflux is the culprit

I will let you know what I find out

also my symptoms started in november 2016 so it's about 5 months
