Problem with foot and leg swelling !

Posted , 5 users are following.

Well........very happy with the operation itself - but now 5 days later can hardly do foot exercises due to swelling. Will rest more today with elevation and ice and see how it goes. Has been swollen since the operation, so not a new problem, just slightly worse, so making walking that bit more difficult. Anybody solved this problem, or can advise anything further to suggest. ?

hi helen. I was the same abt day 6. both my legs swelled to ridiculous amt. I'd not at that time got anything to elevate my legs on besides going to bed which I was doing a couple of x a day. got a stool similar to hospital type and within 2 day most of swelling gone. I lost 10 lbs in weight over that time and was peeing for england. anyway I now still elevate both legs at different times abt every 2-3 hrs in the day. others have sd ice as well.

I've read you need your ankle in line with your hip for you to benefit from elevation. think some swelling is normal for quite a while after. I've also got myself a larger pair of shoes which has helped ( normally a 6 now wearing 7.5)

    good luck 😃

      HI Julie,

That's helpful Julie , thank you. Will stick with the elevation and ice after exercises then, and see how it goes. Makes trying to walk just so difficult.

      Appreciate your comments. 😃

had. ankle sugury in december and in march I fell and broke my thigh. My ankle swells a bit now if I walk around too much, but I had hardly any swelling in my thigh at all after my operation. I soak my ankle in hot water and epsom salts and elevate afterwards. I wouldnt be putting my full weight on my operated side so soon after my operation, unless your doctor said it is safe to do so.
