Problematic side effects

I know that this is the most often topic but I haven't found an answet to my problem.

So for the last two weeks I've been taking setratile (1 week half a pill = 25mg, now whole pill 50mg). I also have been given alprazolam for social anxiety (which i only take when Im really anxious or stressed or simply fearful) and also trazodone for sleeping problems (its also a antideppresant). Havent found any positive things yet (but i know its a short time-period) but I have a few problems. First of I have somekind of rheumatical disorder (im 25) and it significantly worsened in the past few days. The second thing is that during as i call them "black days" my depression becomes much much much more subduing. The last one is that I havent pooped in a week and its weirding me out cos i dont feel any pain or anything, and Ive been eating helluva lot fibers and apples.

Pardon my english and please respond. Thank you & have a good day

I'm not very knowledgable on you're situation, but I know it helps to have some feed backsmile

From what I've read, you're right, it seems they haven't quite figured out your "magic dose", and 2 weeks isn't super long. I think it's better to up in small doses so the side effects aren't as bad. My first 5 days on an ssri were complete HELL (citalopram).

Are you eating enough? I know that sounds very simple, but might be a thought? Fiber helps regulate and add bulk to stool, so I think you're doing good to make sure that's part of your diet. When I can't go, I find it helpful to go walking or a light exercise.

Is constipation a side effect for any of your medications?

    Sorry I wasn't much help.

    Sending support and positivity!!

Hello wiltor, i agree with allie you are still in the early stages of this med. I also dont know much about ur rheumatical disorder but you should speak to your doctor about it. Are you drinking enough water concerning your other problem. Hope this helped some.

Hi, im the same as allie, i dont know much about your other medical problem. but my starting dose on sertaline was 50mg, i had and have the usual side effects, but not to bad yet,My doctor just started me on that to see if i would tolerate the drug, as i wasn't bad within a week i went up to 100mg, 3 weeks on it now, and still side effects, but feel an improvement in mood, still have bad days, and still not right but better than i was. It can take up to 6 weeks to see or feel any benefit from sertaline, so maybe speak with your doctor about how its effecting you and give it some more time to take proper effect.

Now! lol. As to the pooping problem, its not one of the side effects that i have had from sertaline, but i know it can be one of them. I was on morphine once before and that does the same thing, i never pooped for over a week., lol i was freaking out! lol. But anyways, i told my doctor, and he gave me an orange tasting liquid to drink, just 10ml a day it was a bit like benalyn cough syrup, and i only took it twice, it done the trick, it was just a mild laxative but it worked. Like allie said as well, fibers good but bulks you up, My grandmother used to swear by prunes, they work to get you moving, dont taste great tho. But speak with your doc and maybe give the sertaline a bit more time, again as allie said its just about finding the right dose for you, im feeling more benifit after 3 weeks on 100mg, but thats just me, same as the side effects i have some other people have and not others, and a couple of weird ones that ive never even heard of lol, but these should all pass once your body adjusts to the sertaline, hang in there, speak to your doc and honestly the laxitive syrup mine gave me tasted a hell of a lot better than a can of prunes.

Keep us updated, and hope you feel better soon, all the best G

Hi again, just  a thought, about the depression, i do know starting sertaline, for the first while it can cause the depression anxiety to feel like its getting worse, i felt a bit like that when i started, its just your body and mind adjusting to the drug, it wont last and that should soon change, it may take a few weeks, It done that to me but that passed fairly quick for me, after a week or two, and i really feel its helping now. But again tell your doctor, and hang in there, it can be a bit rough to start with. All the best G
