Problems Continue with Mortons

Hello All,
It's very interesting reading about you all and the problems you are having. I've been back to the NHS Podiatrist and it was a complete waste of time. I was told, "there isn't any 'quick fix' for this" and "as we get older (I'm 57) we just have to put up with these things". I have not had a scan, they seem reluctant to send me for one and as a token of good will, she plastered a bit of flat sponge onto the old insoles they given me 6 months ago. I feel I can't turn to anyone and all I can do is try to help myself which is what I've been doing all along really. As I've had this condition for years, I think I must realise by now there isn't any 'quick fix'. It's the attitude that really annoys me, I felt guilty for actualy being there. I see people hobbling in there, over weight, obviously not taking care of themselves and the NHS are bending over backwards for them. Me on the other hand, hardly ever bother the Dr, keep myself fit, don't smoke or drink, not over weight and I feel I am at the bottom of the pile. It's just not right. It seems to me they don't want to know anyone who take the initiative to look after their own health.
So...... on I go trying different insoles. If I had the money, I would be going private.
Can anyone reccommend an insole with an arch that has some sort of cushioning at the fore foot. If I could get hold of something, I can put my own Met Pad under, which is what I've been doing with all my insoles, but I can't seem to hit on the right one. The ones the NHS gave me are the Slimflex, and no cushioning at all for walking, so no use to me. It's the pain in these 3rd and 4th toes thats excruciating at times. It's right under the nails, burning hot needle like pains. I want to continue with my walking as much as I can, so if anyone can come up with a basic insole, with arch support suitable for walking in, I'd appreciate it and I can adapt it myself.
Good Luck All

So sorry to hear about your problem. Where do you live? I am in Sunbury on Thames and I was sent to the West Middx hospital under the care of Prof Tagoe, he only does feet and is brilliant. The first time I went to see him he said yes that is a Mortons Neuroma no scan or anything, he did offer to inject my foot but I had already tried that to no avail also I pain nearly £100 for insoles and they did nothing either. So I went ahead and had the operation and it has been fine since, and that was several years ago. I went back last week with my other foot and again he is going to operate next March for me. Can you not ask for a second opinion, I must of been about 57 when I had my first opp and I am now 63, just because we are getting older we don't have to put up with this pain. Good luck.

Thanks for your consideration but I'm no where near you, I'm in Northern Cumbria. I think I will have to think again about this lot, and perhaps go back to the Dr at some point and atell them I'm getting nowhere.

I am sorry to hear of your problem. No matter which area you come from you are entitled to a 2nd opinion. I assume your GP referred you to a
podiatrist following you having discussed your problem with her/him
initially? Usually your GP would have referred you to see a podiatrist
(who by the sound of it behaved very unprofessionally & needs reporting for ageism, I wonder how she'd feel if this was said to her or a relative of hers)?
A podiatrist doesn't normally book a scan its usually your G.P. so I wouldrecommend you go back to your GP & inform them as to how you feel
about your problem & you could mention if you wish, as to how the
Podiatrist behaved towards you but sometimes when I've had problems
I've found its better to just get on with what you want to get sorted
because unfortunately we're only given a short amount of time to
discuss our reasons for visiting them.
You should ask your G.P. if you can be referred to a foot specialist & if
they say no ask them why not. I've found if you don't ask you don't get.
I'm not saying you haven't asked but if you've been refused just keep
asking.
My problems been going on for the past 5 years & I've seen some
professional's who've been marvellous but others have been a complete waste of time. Unfortunately, I'm still not cured but its good to read that
there have been successful.
Best of luck
