Yes small items as you say like nuts, salad leaves, popcorn etc. Currently about to have swallowing test to gauge problem.  Think happening in July and will post update if feel helpful to others.

Is the swallowing test different from an endoscopy have avoided that as would be terrified of anything down my throat

Is that the Ph test? I had this and I am not going to lie it was horrible getting the tube up my nose and down my throat but once it was in it was fine and taking it out the next day was not an issue. They can't sedate you for it either.

Not totally sure but think Louise is right and involves swallowing a thin tube which then is used to measure your swallow pressure. But I am not going in overnight so might be different, Know what you say about endoscopy but you can opt for a general anaesthetic which means you know absolutely nothing apart from perhaps left with bit of a sore throat.....just dont let them talk you into sedation.  You will need to have somebody with you if undergoing GA so can get you home safely.

I asked a while ago when I was considering an endoscopy about general anaesthetic but was told they only do sedation not GA.

First time I opted to just have throat relaxant but was offered GA. 2nd Time went straight for GA and friend who has had test on my advice also took GA option. These tests were done at 3 different hospitals so can only assume all NHS would offer same. Who is saying not offered? If not the hospital would talk to their Gastrology Dept direct to be 100%. Try not to give them option ....I would get test booked and then make contact advising you will be requiring GA.You  can always cancel. Also if you have option try different hospitals. Good luck.
