My doctor is discussing the direct anterior procedure doing hip replacement surgery. Anyone out there knows exactly what this type of procedure is?

I had anterior THR in January. Was very happy without having as many precautions as with posterior.
With anterior, the surgeon makes an incision in the front of the thigh and does not cut through any muscles as with other procedure.
Most important, in my opinion, is the experience and ability of the surgeon for either procedure. My surgeon is very experienced with anterior. He can do posterior, too.
If you do an online search "anterior and posterior hip replacement" you'll find a lot of information.

I've had both hips replaced with the anterior method. My surgeon does both anterior and posterior. My second surgery was almost three weeks ago and I'm doing quite well. I do like the fact that I don't have to worry about not bending over for fear of dislocation.

Yes,I had no problems with my two Posterior surgeries and made a very quick pain free recovery. The important factors in every hip replacement surgery is the experience and ability of the surgeon and your level of fitness and having a positive disposition.
