Proctitis?

Hi

I recently had a colonoscopy after losing blood, change in bowel habit and unexplained weight loss. There was mention of ulcerative proctitis in the report and 14 biopsies were taken.

This was six weeks ago and I have been told it could be another three months for biopsy results and the GP is reluctant to do anything after giving me two weeks of budenofalk enemas. The symptoms are getting worse and i cant stop overthinking about the biopsies.

Has anyone had any similar experience or have any tips on how to calm symptoms.

thanks

    Hi there,

Sorry I never seen your post till now and don't know if your still having issues.

I have Ulcerative Proctitis and had 2 colonoscopys, last one in 2020 and I'm going for another next week plus a gastroscopy(dreading that one).I didn't want oral medication so my consultant prescribed 2 type of suppositories.

Pentasa for everyday to manage symptoms and Prednisone when it flared up.

All has been well since 2020 and didn't need to use them since then until 5wks ago when it suddenly flared up.

This time tho unlike last symptoms I also have severe bloating and struggle to eat alongside it hence the double

    procedure.

You never mentioned any suppositories in your medication so maybe you could suggest to your consultant if that could be an option for you to calm your symptoms?

I wish you all the best on your results. x

    Hi,

I have ulcerative proctitis - i was diagnosed 10 years ago. My symptoms at the time were rectal bleeding. Why is your GP managing your care? were you referred to a colorectal surgeon for the colonoscopy? if so, they should be the one prescribing medication and referring you to a GI doctor. i don't have any tips on how to manage the symptoms without meds. I have seen some talk about an auto immune diet & FOD map
