Proctitis

Hi all I was diagnosed for a 2nd time yesterday with proctitis after a sigmoidoscopy . I was given an enema beforehand to clear me out . I've always said I only have symptoms of red blood with bowel movements and brown mucus with gas when I'm constipated ( this happens a lot). I was given pentasa enemas to use for 14 days which I was dreading . I used it for the first time last night and kept it all in . Ive had a bowel movement today which was perfectly normal with no blood and I've had no mucus . Surely the pentasa enema is not that good that it's worked overnight ??

Not a Chance. Keep up with the treatments. I have times with no bleeding and then times when the bleeding is very bad, but the whole time bleeding or not I was diagnosed with severe disease from just visual inspection. So, just because you see no blood really doesn't mean anything. You are lucky that Pentasa works for you. In my case it doesn't touch it, so I have to have Entyvio infusions. It will get better, just don't let up with the treatments. Most likely you will have to be on it for months to years.

I didn't think so . I was initially diagnosed last November and was prescribed asacol suppositories but my biopsies came back normal so at my follow up with the gi in April I was taken off them . I pushed for the 2nd sigmoidoscopy due to continued symptoms off and on and I'm now waiting to see the gi again to find out my biopsies results . I have only been prescribed the enemas for 14 days so hoping my appointment cones through soon so I'm not without treatment again.

    Hi michelle

The earlier you treat it the less likely for it to become chronic. I used Budanofalk, which worked within a few days.

      Cheers

Thank you . I was told when given the enemas I should notice a difference in a few days
