Proctosol 2.5%

I finally went to a colorectal specialist and had an examination that confirmed late grade 2 internal hemorrhoids. Since I wasn't having a flare up that particular day, the doc is not 100% certain but suspects that my feelings of discomfort after bms are due to them swelling.

He prescribed proctosol 2.5% to apply inside for 3 weeks and then said that if this doesn't work, then we can discuss rubber band ligation.

I have two questions:

  1. Has anyone used proctosol 2.5% and if so, what is your experience?
  2. At what point do you decide that rubber band ligation is the way to go? I'm never in pain but I do find that it's uncomfortable/annoying/distracting and preys on my mind...but then I think that at least I'm not suffering in pain. I'm just a little hesitant that it will work and worry that it will make things worse than they are which is somewhat tolerable.

I got dragged in by my wife , she was sick of hearing me b***h and complain. 2 grade 2 internal, he banded them on the spot. It was more mentally distracting,as i was convinced something else was wrong..nope 2 extra terrestrial visitors 😆. 7 months ago. Remember once you have em, your prone to reoccurrence.

I would try the proctosol first before banding. I have used proctosol suppositories and it does help with small hemorrhoids, it gives you relief. 2 years ago I decided to have a hem banded and I still regret it. I was in more pain after banding, and 2 years later it is still there giving me more discomfort than before the banding. So if you are not in pain do that first. Good luck.

I've used that ointment and it didn't particularly help me, but my doctor recommended it so I think it works for a lot of people.

I've had that op twice. The first time a huge success and no further problems for three years. The op was not painful and I wasn't in pain afterwards. Had it a second time and a very different experience. It was uncomfortable both during and after for a few days and didn't work.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Did the doctor give any suggestions as to why they had different outcomes? Do you have any thoughts on why?
