Hi Liz
At the moment you should be doing very little! I had a vaginal hysterectomy 18 months ago and felt fine from day one. No pain or discomfort. Thought I'd be back to normal in next to no time. Rested for the first week and then started short walks - all fine. At 2 weeks post op I twisted awkwardly to pull a plug from a socket behind a sofa and later that afternoon I had a really bad bleed. I think I had torn some stitches so had to rest for a couple of days. If you Google your procedure you will be surprised to see how much stitching there is. Did you have an anterior repair to your bladder? If you did, then the stitches will run right down your vagina to secure everything!!
Don't be tempted to overdo things. Try and find something you can do that's restful, like reading etc. I actually wrote a short novel in the 6 weeks after my op!
Best of luck
Shani

Hi, Liz,
My surgeon said 6 weeks of taking it easy. No house cleaning and don't lift anything heavier than a half gallon carton of milk. I had my 6 week check up and he cleared me for just a little more activity and said I could resume normal activity carefully after another three weeks. So for me, the restriction was for about 9 weeks.
Because of the small incisions, you tend to heal faster on the outside that you do on the inside.
Do be careful! And, best of luck to you!

I'm surprised your discharge papers did not specify. Vaginal hysterectomy is supposed to have a shorter recovery than the 6 week norm for abdominal hysterectomy. But since you also had an anterior repair, I would think 6 to 8 weeks would be necessary. Lifting limitations may also be more restrictive and there may be some lifetime lifting restrictions, at least that's what some women have reported. Do you have your first post-op check coming up? This should all be explained then.

I'm 6 weeks post op I had a total Vaginal Hysterectomy , I was able to return to work after 2 weeks ( office Manager ) so I don't really do any physical work. but No sex , lifting or bathing for 6 weeks.
just don't over do it just because you feel like you can, I also felt great from day one, it took the incision on top the longest to heal, it still has a small scab. the other 2 on the sides and the one in my belly button healed the 1st week.
just take it easy
