Hi i am a carer for the elderly and whilst pushing a client in a wheel chair i have prolapsed my disc. I am having physio once a week and hve tried every possible painkiller with no result so i have now been prescribed morphine tablets but they are not really working. The pain is badly in my siatic nerve in my right leg and i am still waiting for a scan date, I cannot sleep or walk far, I have been told that they do not want to remove the disc due to me being very young [ im 28] and because of the complications it may cause due to wher the disc is. I am usually an active hard working mother and i would welcom any advice to make life a little bearable at the moment.

Hi Kelly
I've had my prolapsed disc for some time now and at the beginning I was often near tears, not only with the pain but the fact I couldn't care for my children, being a single parent with two children under three broke my heart. I began seeing an osteopath three weeks ago (once weekly half hour sessions) and for the first time since the pain started I haven't needed to take painkillers since the very first visit. I still have bouts of pain, and constant pins and needles in my foot but nothing that prevents me enjoying my normal day. I had tried physio, but it gave me no real ease. Give osteo a chance, put it this way, it can't get any worse!

I hope it doesn't come to it, but if you have to have an op., it may not be the end of the world. I am 35 and have two children. I had an op to remove a prolapsed disc a few wks back and so far so good. I know it can put more pressure on the remaining discs, but after a yr or so of pain, something had to be done. i am surprised you have been put on morphine, the pain must be awful. Got any spare? Just kidding- I hope it all comes good for you and your family.
