Prolapsed disc full recovery possible?

I have been for my latest consult with my specialist about 3 weeks ago, he asked me what i'd been doing in the 6 months before I last saw him so I explained all the stretching walking and swimming and he was happy with my results and how i've improved, almost brushed me off, I was only in there with him for 5 minutes, he didn't test reflexes, or flexability or anything.
he just told me to carry on stretching and it will get better, might take a long time but it will get better? I've just been taking naproxen for the infalmation but they do very little for me.
I've just started a new commission based job that requires a lot of walking so I really need to try and fix this soon as possible and if not fix atleast start to fix it.
For about 3 days i've been pretty painless but today my foot keeps going numb and tingly, only lasting for 10 seconds or so but it happens about 7 times or so an hour and it makes me really uncomfortable and worrysome.
anything you guys are doing that is really helpful? Do i have any other options apart from guided injections and meds?
