hi steve feel for you with that fall an all, but sorry to say our health service is a wee(to put it lightly) bit slower than greece, i,ve had experience of the greek health service and must say they are brilliant.but your home now and the waiting begins. there are some helpful advise on this site and plenty to browse. if you,ve been diagnosed with prolapsed disc via mri or such then ask your gp to refer you to a ortho doc , i myself have had it with this health service i prolapsed two cervical discs oct 2005 and was first refered to a ortho doc that took 18 wks then he ordered a mri that took 5mths then back to the ortho doc 3wks then he said i needed surgery but he couldnt do it so he refered me to a neurosurgeon that took 18wks the ns agreed i needed urgent surgery(i should think so been waiting 21mths so far) so was put on another list and may get my long awaited freedom from pain by xmas. in the mean time i could lose my job and im living on ssp. so im sorry to say the wait has only just started. but there are quick ways around it if you can afford it. get an mri scan at your bupa hosp(see judiths notes) then pay to see the consultant then go on the nhs list will knock off months. but get some physio will help big time. hope this is of some use.gail

    Hi Steve

Judith here, I to thought I had just aprolapse disk, so after 3 months of messinf about and then being told it would be Jan before the scan, I rang Bupa a weel last Tuesday and then went on that Friday for the scan, I have been to my GP today for the results (even though they were back in Bridgend mid last week), my GP is really good and suggested I need to see a Spinal Consultant, not just an orthopaedic one as they don;'t specialise in the spine. My results were not what I really wanted to hear Osteo arthritis of the l;ower spine wearing of the disks and a few small bulges, and digenerative disk discease, have decided I am going to go private to see Consultand around £150 and then get oon the NHS for the treatment which my GP seems to think could be steroid injections in the spine oir Surgery sad . I also so take Gabapentin and these have helped the spasms and the pins and needles in my right leg the pain has been unbelievable, hope this some help if you wnt to know anything else don't hesitate to ask, feel much better in my mind now.

I to have had dealings with the Greeks hospital and though they were far superior.
