Prolonged bleeding on birth control? (combination pill)

I started taking birth control pills for the first time earlier this month (yasmin pill). As directed, I started taking them on the first day of my period. Usually my period lasts 5 days (max), it's now been over two weeks of continuous bleeding. During the week after my period usuallly would have ended the bleeding was really light. I decided to stop taking the pill 2 days ago to see if it would stop the bleeding and now the flow is quite heavy. I'm not too sure what to do or if this is normal. Any ideas would be really helpful as I'm getting tired of the constant bleeding 😦
