Propanalol Withdrawal?

Posted , 19 users are following.

I am a 27 year old male who was originally given propranolol 40MG back in January for some minor anxiety.

Since starting (about a month later) I have been going to A&E every single week/ 2 times per week complaining of extreme weakness and pure terror, ice cold but sweaty and numb hands and legs and arms and thinking I am certainly going to die.

I was never ever like this before going on propranolol so I have reduced from 40MG to 20MG, I am on day 3 and have never ever felt so petrified and scared I am going to die, I cannot stop shaking inside my body (you can’t see me shake but it feels like my whole body is tingling/vibrating)

I am also extremely dizzy, light headed, faint and completely and utterly exhausted and have never ever felt so scared in my whole life. I am literately stuck to my bed just crying and crying thinking it is never ever going to end.

Every time I have been to A&E my ECG is clear as well as all blood markers, they say nothing is wrong with me.

To clarify I am on day 3 of a reduction of 20MG from 40 which I have been on for about 5 months.

I beg you with all my heart that can you please assure me this will pass or is normal? I am almost dropping my phone now with how weak I feel

    Hi Tricia.

At least the cardiologist didn't fob you off with "I doubt it", like most of them do. And, he has given you a bit of insight into what is happening to you. Let's hope they can get to the bottom of it.

Let's hope you get the referral soon

Hi Sandra. Yeah I'm okay with all of it. if something is slightly wrong, it has always been that way. It got much, much worse coming off the beta blocker, but i seem to be slowly going back to my baseline. it's just a bit slower than I would have liked. i hope you're doing alright. i meant to tell you that i think the magnesium glycinate does help with my anxiety. if you haven't tried that type of magnesium, you might want to try it.

      Hi Tricia.

I'm glad things are slowly improving for you.

I will buy some of that magnesium and give it a try, thank you.

Will check in with you soon

      Hi Tricia.

Sorry to hear you feeling unwell again. It's just soul destroying, isn't it?

I haven't been great either. I'm having lots of side effects from the increase in my anti depressant. May have to change it yet again.

Maybe feeling worse after your period could be your iron levels. Are you feeling any better now?

Sorry for not posting for a while. My iron was back closer to normal from the supplements, but my symptoms definitely seem to get worse with my period every time. I should probably have the iron rechecked. How are you these days? I’m really sorry about the antidepressant. I hate all of these drugs at this point. Do you still check your heart rate at all?

I was on 10 mg of propananol twice a day for two weeks. I wean down to 10 mg and then 7.5. My doctor told me to go off. a total of 18 days Since then I am still feeling very cold, sweaty and tingly. It has been four days since I went off. My doctor didn’t seem ti think it would cause any problems . I was put on it because I am in withdrawal from taking a low dose of gabapentin. So now I’m into 2 withdraws propananol and gabapentin. This really sucks big time. It seems like every time I breathe in my breath feels cold inside my chest. Anyone else with these kinds of experiences withdrawl from propananol

this sounds just like waht happent to me. looking back now i know what caused it.so, i take antipsycotics for bipolar 1, i have been well for years and was reducing medication. untill i developed a fast heart rate at night. i started using propranalol . one week later i Developed ringing in my ears and was so loud and anxity was getting worse. week 2 i then started having panic attacks. i thought i was having a relapse of bipolar anxity as it was all the same feelings as if i was going into psycosis again but worse.to cut a long story short i ended up iseing this drug to cuver up the panic attacks the following days every day with dizzynes disorientation and lightheadedness all at the same time. thie thing was it happend the same time fowlling day. i would go light headed, muscle spazams/twitching/rining in ears gose loud amd extream anxity panic attac. at the time i was inaware it was propranalol causing it. i went on bezos antidepressent and nothing really helped i had to with draw of those drugs as well so that was added anxity . I then suspected it was propranalolol but dident know if it was bipolar anxity disorder witch the dr keeped telling me it was my disorder but my guys told me it has to be propranalolol because it happend same time every day. so i went throuh hell the second week as nothing happent the first week. extream anxity the second week woth very painfull stomach pain/cramping really loud rining in the ears. its been 6 weeks now and i have improved alot the symtoms have changed over the weeks from bad head pains eye pain fast heart irregular paulpatations. aces and pains feelings of death and dieing any moment. tachycardia and feeling ill uncoftable in my skin. insomnia. now when i take seroquel at night it seems to activate anxity and tachycardia and adrenaline wave and the a shakey anxity feeling in the morning again and i cant sleep proply again keep waking. it dose all come in waves and you do get good days and then really bad days again. this will be the week of week 7 for me and i do think its gonna take a while to recover. the ringing has gone quieter apart from the times it flares up in the afternoons all i get now with that is a louder ringing and crazy fast leg twitching all over. anxity has stoped with it now the anxity changed to mood unstability highs then lows and the leveled out all this gose on for 30minits to an hour then stops for abit and the carrys on again. 2pm 3pm 4pm same times every day sometime it starts early in morning but most days its the afternoon.i tryed to add as much as i can because this is not a nice drug at all and when your going through it and dont know whats going on its not nice and its very lonely and people like drs tell you its not the drug its your bipolar. just gose to show they on nothing and its made me relise these doctors are handing out drugs to people that they dont no the truth. he gave me an antidepressent and that made me want to kill my self. im just glad its pretty much overwith now. i wish you well.
