proper diagnosis and treatment?

can anyone explain to me why my GP has told me she suspects I have LS and gynacologist confirms I have fusing which I can see, but neither of them have suggested starting any steroid treatment. I have had itching/'buzzing' for 4 years. I also found a lump which they both say is a 'skin tag' from the fusion. I am not happy with their casual approach. The gynae said and I quote "if it becomes bothersome, come back and see us". The GP says it needs to be checked every year.

I am 64 and live in the UK. Is this a USA forum?

OMG you need to get another Gyn....quick!!  You need to be on Clobetasol (steriod cream) and use a solution of Borax and water, spray bottle works great...see threads on this.  It really is magical in how it heals and unfuses, but in my opinion you need both.  But you have to try different things as listed on this forum and see what works best for you.  It is a lifelong journey of managing LS, don't think it ever goes entirely away.  Good luck to you and let us know how you get on.  (p.s.  I am 74 and live in USA)

Thank you jeri - I will make more fuss with my GP and see if there is a LS specialist she can refer me to. I will also look into this Borax treatment, everyone on here seems to be recommending it.

See another doctor immediately Sarb.  You should look after LS sooner than later.  On this site start reading the discussion on "An Experiment with Borax".  It helped many.

Thanks Hanny, will definitely read the discussion on Borax as everyone seems to be recommending it on this forum. Although it does seem rather drastic to use a bleach solution. I cant help but think my GP thinks I am acting hysterically about this, but it is a horrifying condition and I think she should be more pro-active and sympathetic. I will revisit her before trying to find another doctor.

Borax is not a bleach solution, Sarb, but a mineral that deep cleans.

?Now in order to find the discussion I checked out again how to get there, since this forum has changed a bit in appearance.  First go to the top of the screen and click on Discussion Forums.  Then click on Lichen Sclerosis.  Scroll through all the topics till you can go to the next page.  It's on page 2.

Thanks Hanny - I have found it and it is extremely interesting and encouraging. Now I just need to find the right stuff to buy here in the UK. It appears Borax is banned for sale.

Sarb go to the main Lichen Sclerosus page and just scroll down til you see a post from Alistar that reads " An experiment with borax" I found it on the second page. I hope you can find it. I have no idea how to post the link or I would. Please let me know if you find it, if not ill keep trying to find a way of leading you there.

That's great Sarb. Please keep me posted on when you get it and if it helps. I seen my urologist last Wednesday. She was enthralled at the changes in me. Couldnt believe I had no pain, no redness and that I was unfusing. She told me its good for uroligists to check for bacterial infections in the ureatha because with lichen you can get those but most Dr's don't check for that. It causes hesitation and burning and some mild cramping, some of the burning with lichen can be associated with that. I know ive been experiencing that hesitation for a couple years now and yep I had a ureatha infection losing dormant. Feeling so much better after taking my antibiotic. Never knew there was such a thing but THERE IS! Please keep me posted on so anxious for you, more excited that you might actually get some relief. I pray so anyway my friend.

So sorry for responding so late ive been spending time with my grand baby and new bf.

Look forward to hearing from you soon!!

Hi sheila, thank you for your update. Interesting about urethra infection, but I don't think I have those symptoms. I am going to see my GP after a holiday and ask lots more questions. I have just received some borax. How do you use it (bathing, spritzing, dabbing it on?) and how often?

Don't apologise for late response, grand babies are the best distraction!

She's not the distraction thia time. Fell playing with her and tried nit to fall on her and messed up my knee now I have to have surgery.

      How to use the borax:

In sitz bath I dilute 1 teaspoon in hot water and pour in to sitz and add amount of like warm water you need til full.

Spritz: I boil a cup of water and then add borax a teaspoon at a time until it doesn't dissolve anymore. Pour that mixture after its cooled into a small spray bottle. Put in bathroom. Everytime you go to the bathroom just spritz yourself after you tinkle. Then pat dry.

Bath: I use 1/4 cup of borax and a 1/4 baking soda fill tub up with warm but not hot water so it comes just above your hips.

I'm sorry about taking so long to answer again. You have such patience. I hope this note finds you well.

      Your friend Sheila

Thank you for these helpful directions, I am using borax morning and night in a saturated solution (as Alistar did) but will add baths to this. So sorry to hear about your fall - you really don't need that.

Good luck with your knee as well as your LS.
