Proper heel to toe walking..

Ok I had my plaster off and K wire out last Friday and thankfully the swelling is going down nicely.....But I'm really struggling with proper walking and am pulling up short and taking smaller steps. I really have to concentrate and find myself limping a lot...Is this normal does it come in time as the toes gradually get more flexible....?

thanks in advance...

Yes completely normal! I was limping for ages to the point that everyone commented when I stopped limping. However even now 3.5 months later I don't feel that I walk normally and I am considering asking to see a physio as I don't seem to know which part of my foot I should be walking on!

U hi can you tell me how long it took to get the flexibility back to normal in your big toe? I have one good one and one bad one. I just can't seem to get the blasted thing to bend properly.

    Hi Wendy,

I am not sure your procedure involved bone cut at the metatarsal big toe. If it is I think you should wear special shoe to avoid the limping. For my case, I had scarf osteotomy and K-wire insertion procedure one and a half year ago. I remember the surgeon advised me to wear a Velcro shoe. He told me it takes 6 weeks for bone tissue to attach back. I wore the shoe for my left foot that having the procedure. To balance my walking I need crutches.

I dont remember having limping with that shoe. The toes will become more flexible with time. For myself now only I feel the total flexiblity for my toe, which is already 1 and a half year.

Bear in mind, the smaller the bone size the longer the recovery. What I have read so far there are people with 3 years recovery period.

    Good Luck for you Wendy.
