Ive been on 80mg slow release once per day since about october last year for anxiety.Although at first they were ok ive stopped using them daily to every other day cause i want off them.

Ive been trying lose weight and its not shifting.I started using a heart rate monitor to find the calories im burning are less than a third to what ibuse to burn pre-propranolol. Has anyone else had this problem with weightloss /heart rate. Also how long will it take for tablets to be completely out of mh system?

That's why I stopped them i put about half a stone on in 3 months which is not like me. Tried to shift it but didn't work. Been off them 6 weeks and I've lost it without even trying. You need to switch to immediate release ones. 40mg twice a day for a week, then 40mg a day for a week. Then every other day, then every third then stop. I had to go right down to 10mg a day because I struggled with my heart racing. I'm fine now though. They do help anxiety but being fatter makes you depressed lol.

      Hi Amy.

Just came across your post here.

I wonder if you could help me?

I had been on Inderal LA 80mgs for 8 years for migraine. As the patent ran out I was given beta-prograne 80SR to replace my original tablets. I had a problem with these!!! They made me feel really tired, lethargic and no motivation so my Gp suggested I try coming off them altogether.

He prescribed 10mg immediate release propranolol and said I was to step down over couple of weeks. So 5,4,3,2 then 1. Each dose to be done for 2-3 days.

My problem now is that within an hour or so of taking the first tablet in the morning, my head starts to feel very swimmy and floaty.

Then my heart starts banging away.

How did you feel transferring from long acting to the fact acting ones?

Did you get any strange feeling in your head? Did tour heart bang?

I saw you took 40mg twice a day!!!! I don't think I could handle that much.....10mg at a time is bad enough.

Last night I had to call 111 as I live on my own and was scared of the sensation iny head and my heartbeat going so hard.

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Thank you. Rose

I've found the key to this medication is taking it at bedtime. It does effect your head and heart rate- but it also makes you tired! I fall asleep within 20 mins of taking it- which is amazing since I used to have trouble sleeping before. If you take it directly as your heading to bed you should be able to sleep through a lot of those weird sensations. If you can't sleep thru your symptoms try adding benadryl at nite as well. (Fast acting might to better. ..I would give each dose longer to be on too- maybe a week or more to adjust)

That being said...I find this drug to be VERY powerful. ..and the doctors seem to take it very lightly! I have finally stepped down to 5mg now- my menstrual cycle finally returned & I am starting to feel like my old self again!

      Good luck- Nat

Yes. ..that's exactly the problem with the medicine! Somehow it doesn't metabolize the fat. I am down to 10mg 1 per day (from 120mg over a year ago) I am STILL gaining weight! Rediculous since everything else has stayed the same. I am nervous to go completely off however- just don't want the migraines to come back...

Keep us all posted. Nice to hear that something went off & lost the weight- good luck!

If you have got right down to 10mg coming off will be fine. Just do every other day then every 3rd day to make it easier. The weight will come off when it's out of your system. Unfortunately the migraines did return for me and my anxiety is worse, but I'm going to try without then. I took 20mg the other day when I got u. A real panick but I'm not sure if that's allowed?
