Propranolol and insomnia

Hi

I’ve been taking propanolol for a week now and since taking it I’ve been having really bad sleep. I fall asleep fine and then 2 hours later I’m wide awake again.

I’ve tried lowering my dose to 20mg and that’s not helped so I’ve recently taken kalms, diazepam, bach night remedy and last night Nytol (obviously not all together).

I don’t want to rely on tablets to sleep. I just want to go back to my normal sleep pattern of 7-8 hrs.  Any advice would be great. I take my tablet at 8am and wondered if anyone had taken it at night and if it made their insomnia worse or if it helped them sleep through?

Thanks

This medication can be problematic like all others, side effects can be a problem although many people are different. You will need to take your correct dose for around five, six weeks before the benefit is really marked

If you having problems with sleep utilize Mindfulness as you are in bed and hopefully you will sleep Sleeping medications are only good over the short term, they may cause sleep problem in their own way over time

See how you get on over Christmas week and make an appointment with your GP if you feel that need. Hopefully you will feel a bit better soon

      Hi Bob

I’ve been doing mindfulness for weeks now and to no avail. So I should take the 40mg then for 5/6 weeks?

      Thanks

      Hi

I didn’t I’m afraid. I came off of the Propranlol (as per drs advice) as was on it for anxiety and didn’t really feel that great using it.

I am on sleeping medication until my CBT appointment comes through.

      Sorry not much help

Are you still online? I find myself similar.  Awake all, night on propanolol so feel i will, have to discontinue.  Shame as it did seem to aid anxiety a bit but cannot do with no sleep.

You can try meditation that is the natural way to get relaxed. It helps in insomnia because it increase quality sleep, you feel well relaxed and ready for all day work.
