I took 40mg of propranolol at 8 am this morning, my heart rate feels really low now but I'm starting to get really anxious would it be okay to take half of one of my lorazepam tablets??

    Hi Katie!

Please don't get worried about taking 40mg of propranolol.  It is a safe dose.  When you say your pulse is really low, how low?  According to my GP, as long as it is above 42 bpm, you are ok.  I must admit, anything under 50 when you are up and about will make you feel tired.  If, after a few days you think the 40mg dose is too high for you, then you could ask your GP is he would consider a lower dose.

As to whether you can take Valium with propranolol, I do not know.  You need to ask your doctor.

it sounds like you haven't been on propranolol long.  I hope your feelings of worry soon settle down.

Well my gp prescribed me 40mg twice a day, well I've just checked my pulse now and it's around 60 beats per min but my anxiety is starting to come back quite badly, I am wondering whether to take the other propranolol tablet as prescribed or not, maybe I should just take half?? Only started taking them alongside sertraline yesterday xx

Hi Katie, it won't hurt you to take half. I take 20 mg twice daily.

Take your pulse on just 1/2 and see if it is in a good range.

I've already taken 40mg at 8 am this morning but I might just try half again now instead of the another 40mg again which they've prescribed. Thank you
