Propranolol for health anxiety?

Posted , 6 users are following.

Went to my gp on Friday.. He prescribed propranolol for my physical symptoms of health anxiety.. I've had lots of tests to rule out any medical conditions I may of had and so he said this was the best option along with CBT (which I am being reffered for).

Just wondering if any one find this medication helpful? I have so many physical symptoms - chest pain, muscle pain, feel sick, extreme tiredness, general aches and pains, tingling in hands and abdominal pain.. Will it help?

Thanks in advance.. Charlotte x

I am on sertraline , I have had a whole host of side effects inc headaches / nose bleeds / stomach ache / tiredness etc. I was on citalopram but they gave me joint pain and swelling sometimes. Thing is if you have just started on them the side effects may be worse at the start but ease off later. Most meds have side effects and will be different for each person on them, its the nature of taking pills unfortunatly :-( .

Have you considered therapy rather than medication? Therapy can work equally or more than medication. Also medication does not resolve issues

well charlotte it sure helped me in the end when I kept recording a pulse of >150 the only snag with this drug is that it sends all the others doing wonderful and weird things to do.
