    Hi beebee12,

One effect of propanolol is to slow your heart rate and make the heart beat more gently. ..this is why it gives your heart an easier time and reduces it's demand for oxygen. This is perfectly normal for propanolol.

The drug is not associated with any pulse irregularities.. What can happen even without drugs is something that many people experience without being aware of it. Sometimes, an extra heartbeat (an extrasystole or ectopic beat) can occur. Because there's been 'one beat too many' the heart pauses to compensate. After the little pause, there's more blood in the heart so the next beat can be felt.

Lots of people have ectopic beats and may experience a few in a short 'run'...these are perceived as palpitations. Anxiety can cause them but they're harmless.

      Hi,

No it isn't. Propanolol actually has an anti - anxiety effect because it moderates the fight/flight response. It tones down the amount of stress hormones released into the bloodstream.

The thud you feel is probably much as described above and this is very common.

Any significant problem is liable to be accompanied by dizziness, blurred vision or shortness of breath. The snag is, anxiety can cause similar feelings.

The small adrenaline thrill you experience will probably be your fight/flight response working...Propanolol works to help control this.

I know that doctors don't attach much importance to the feelings you describe. It's important to realise that ectopics/extrasystoles, though scary, are generally harmless.
