Prospective hernia surgery

When I walk or twist my body I have a knife like pain on the left side under gut about 2 -3 inches from the hip bone or pelvic bone, when I push on it there is pain.I am assuming it is a hernia. Question is laproscopy better or regular surgery. I weight lift frequently and I use this activity is a big outlet and also to keep myself in shape. I am frightened the doctor will suggest no weight lifting ever or at least no more than 25 pounds. Anyone with experience in that department. My hernia does not bulge and the pain feels deep. So I am asking 3 questions a laproscopic vs regular surgery 2. ability to continue vigorous weight lifting and how fast is recovery; how many weeks to curtail activity.

I had key hole laproscopy repair to my umbilical hernia in 2012 which failed in less than 12 months I then suffered obstruction which has horrible symptoms and vomiting this resulted in emergency hospitalisation a nasal tube and major surgery with mesh and 24 hours and a 8 day stay in hospital. Dehiscence of the wound And six weeks of daily dressings and recuperation12 month months later I suffered another obstruction and adhesions meaning another emergency operation another nasal tube 12 days stay in hospital more dehiscence of the wound a DVT in my leg with warfarin treatment and a greater length of time recouperation. in 2016 my hernia repair has failed again with further complications and I am now facing more surgery. My problem has been trying to resume. Normal active life to soon after each operation and lifting normal bjects like chairs and suitcases.
I would whole heartedly recommend that you stop lifting immediately please take all your doctor advice especially about lose weight and diet. As far as surgery goes I would not recommend surgery it is difficult painfully and the recuperation process is frustrating boring and demanding both on your self your family and the health professionals please, please take care and avoid surgery until your doctor tells you it is advisable.
