Prostate BPH Shrinkage - Alpha 5 Blockers

I've just read an article concerning the drugs that can help reduce BPH and/or the symptoms of BPH....Per the article, there's primarily Two Types of Drugs used, ie. Alpha 1 Blockers and Alpha 5 reductase inhibitor...Alpha 1 Blockers, ie. Flomax, Tamsulosin, etc. helps the urinary muscles to relax so it's easier for the bladder to expel the urine through the urethra. ...Thus, they may help with AUR, acute urinary retention...The Alpha 5 Drugs, ie. avodart, finasteride, and dutasteride, etc. reduces the size of the prostate and is used primarily for prostates larger than 30mg...Both drug types can be taken at the same time and, one or both might prevent the need of an prostate operation and/or non-invasive procedure....My URO DOCs, 3, did not tell me about the Alpha 5 Drugs, but they prescribed Flomax....Flomax hasn't helped me and has caused unwanted side affects, ie. dizziness, feeling faint, insomnia, light headiness, drowsiness, etc....In addition, All 3 URO DOCS wanted to do a TURP which I rejected. ..Instead, I did a REZUM which removed the overgrown prostate tissue which had caused my BPH...I wonder if the Alpha 5 Drugs could have reduced the size of the prostate and, thus BPH, so the REZUM or other operation was not necessary....Has Anyone had experience with the Alpha 5 Drugs and can comment on their success and side affects?....Please Comment...

While we're talking about drugs in general, let me put in a plug for Daily Cialis. Not currently on it because not needed, but I did have some success with 5mg/day. Studies show it's just as effective, if not more effective than Flomax, plus this is the one drug where the sexual side effects are positive! Some people have other symptons such as a stuffed nose, headache or heartburn. I had hearburn from Daily Cialis but it went away by taking antacids or OTC Prilosec an hour before breakfast. Only way to really know if you will have side effects is to take it.

Thanks for the follow-up...Flomax's primary side affects that affect me are dizziness, light headedness, feeling faint at times, stuffy nose making it hard to breathe....etc...

Just want to make another plug for alfuzosin (xatral;uroxatral). It has been a godsend for me for over 10 years with no side effects. It relaxes the bladder muscle, imrooves blood flow and relaxes the prostate muscle. If I don't take it for 2 days I go into AUR. If you can get it please try it. It works after a few days with no stuffiness, headaches etc. Neil
