prostate cancer

I was diagnosed in Dec 2004 with Gleason 9. In 2005 I had 2 months of Radio T and 8 months Zoladex. After these, PSA was 0.2. It remained 0.2-0.3 untill late 2012. It was thought that I was cured. There was then a gradual increase until now March 2015 when PSA reached 13.0. After 10 years I am now back on Zoladex. Has anybody had a similar experience and what was the outcome.

Hi there Glamour,  ( Although I almost wince at typing that ! ),

I am sorry to hear that your PSA bracket-creep has now reached a level that causes renewed concern and that you need a growth inhibitor.  Commiserations.

But looking back,  what a fantastic run you have had over the last 10 years !

And to believe that you might have been cured sounds like an absolute luxury that in my experience,  Urologists/Oncologists today are careful to dis-encourage;  usually using the term  ' in remission ' ,   if after 5yrs there is no contra-indication.  So  ' half your luck ! '  as they say here in Australia.

I have a Dear Friend on this Forum who would be delighted to be able to replicate your aetiology.  By any objective assessment,  unless you are a comparative youngster,  you have done extremely well.

But obviously now,  you need support and encouragement from this Community.  So,  go well ' Puss '.  Obviously luck is as therapeutic as anything else.

    With Kind Regards,

    Dudley

Don't be too uncomfortable calling me "glamour" as this was my boss who coined this nick name when I was in the aircraft industry in the early 70's. Apparently I looked like George Best in his days of a full black beard and long black hair. On more than one occason I was mistaken for George when i was in the Manchester area. Happy days.

      Hi there Glamour,

No,  I wasn't uncomfortable at all.  It was,  shall we say,  a one of your famous legs pull.   A great player.   A great nickname.

Aircraft,  Soccer,  Georgie Best ?  ... I'm adding Women to that !

Glamour welcome to the forum... You are a little ahead of me regards treatments received so I'm not sure I'll be of much help... My question is regards to the location of and if there has been any spreading... Gleeson 9 is a very aggressive cancer...

It was all located in the prostate. A recent bone scan shows no sign of a spread. In truth I have been very healthy for the 10 intervening years.

When originally dagnosed my PSA was 11.0. The gleason number was high at 9 as you say. I am now well into my 75th year and by what i am told I am still fit and healthy, except for my prostate. I think it would have been better to have intervened with Zoladex before this month. Any advice I can offer to you I will be happy to do so.
