Prostate cancer at 45

My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 45 in 2009. He had a gleason score of 9, with the cancer being quite aggressive and advancrd. He had surgery to temove the prostate and lymph nodes. We were told the cancer had just started to come out of the prostate. There were a few post op complicatons but he is doing ok 6 years on but doesnt get his levels checked....stubborn! Larely he has been experiencing pain/discomfort where the prostate was but refuses to have it checked out. I am enquiring to see if this pain is common even after 6 years. Thank uou

No idea, but there's no reason to bury his head in the sand! That's just dumb! He needs to get checked out at the docs.

Thank you for your reply and I do agree. But as he won't at this stage, finding out information myself is the only option.

    Hi Bernie,

I have no idea if this is common, but pain that does not have an obvious bengin source (like banging your shin against a table) should be checked out.  I would also say that a PSA check is in order.

Good luck. Fingers crossed that it is nothing of consequence!

Similarly Gleeson 9 etc,etc Following Surgery 5.5 years ago, no pain at all from the operation site.  I have had radiotherapy and Hormone treatment.  Your husband is a young man and can have many more years to live and enjoy life.  Yes there have been restrictions to what I considered a normal life and marriage.  BUT I AM STILL HERE and having a great time.

Go and see your Doctor asap, it may well be nothing to worry about.

Best wishes and I hope all goes well.
