Prostate Cancer or Google Freaking Me Out

A few months back I started to get an annoying groin pain, really only irritated by certain movements or exercises. I chalked it up initially to a workout injury, but as it continued I went ahead and had an STD/STI screening. It was normal. Then a short time later I had a day of seemingly non-stop bathroom stops to urinate. I thought maybe UTI (I have no history of such) and asked to be screened. It was normal. Since then I have noticed I'm peeing more than normal, maybe once every couple hours, and in the morning I wake to a weak urine flow but normal throughout the day. I usually sleep through the night fine. The groin pain did subsided, but now I'm just dealing with this issue. I do have low back discomfort, but that is possibly completely unrelated. That has been ongoing for the last few weeks. It's primarily around my sacrum area. One week it was particularly bad but then the next it was back to mildly annoying. I saw my GP for that and she prescribed muscle relaxers and said I must've sprained my back.

I'm a 36 year old male, white, workout 5x a week and generally never get sick. My dad had male breast cancer when I was in my teens and later died of a different cancer. Not prostate. I was genetically tested for a slew of possibly hereditary cancer genes. I don't have them and no one I'm aware of has ever had prostate cancer in my family.

Perhaps I'm overreacting and overreaching. But obviously seeing people in my life die of cancer my brain goes there. Any thoughts?

The pain you describe and the frequency of peeing you mention are NOT typical signs of prostate cancer. You may have an enlarged prostate, you may have other urological issues going on. Non cancerous issues.

I suggest you see a GP that specialises in MEN'S HEALTH.

He is the guy who has seen all these issues before and if it is serious, he'll recommend a urologist. But maybe he will be able to diagnose and treat you himself.

Hi Barney! Firstly, thank you for taking the time out of your day to respond. It's appreciated. Google is really the worst and is not a healthy place to get information sometimes. With Google all roads seem to lead to cancer. I knew logically I didn't have cancer, but given what I've seen in my family I couldn't help but circle it.

The GP I have is relatively new to me and doesn't specialize in men's health. I'll take your advice and see if I can switch to one that does for a better quality of advice and care.

You're correct that Google often leads to cancer. I have no idea why? Maybe cancer websites pay Google more for traffic that gets there via Google.**

While you're looking for a suitable GP ask your GP to run a urine test. You wrote tyhe last one you had, if any, was some time ago. A urine test will show if you have an infection of any type and you'll be prescribed meds. If infection is what you have, then you're fixed and don't need to urgently seek a men's health specialist GP.**

That said, even if an infection is diagnosed and treated, the sooner you have a suitable GP identified, the better.

If the urine test is negative for infection, hopefully you'll see the right GP in say 2 weeks. If not, ask for a referral to an urologist.

The urinalysis was normal and strangely over the weekend the bladder issues just randomly stopped, like it did before. I was told since the issue stopped a specialist wasn't necessary. Guess I'll have to see if it happens again to know if its chronic.

At this point bladder issue is under control, the back pain is annoying and I lost so much water weight that I'm trying to get it back. It was crazy how much the scale can drop with loss of water.

    UPDATE 11/3/21

I spoke with a different doctor and have an appointment with him next Friday. He essentially said with a lack of fever, chills, swollen lymph nodes or masses this issue doesn't seem urgent and he'll order tests, if needed, when he sees me. At this point the bladder issue resolved itself and I only have back pain and some slow weight loss.

Groin pain you had but now gone could indicate you had a stone that you expelled. Even a small one that you did not feel when peeing could give you pain.

I agree to do nothing or little if there is no pain.

When or if pain returns then a CT of the area may be a good idea.
