Prostate Cancer / Prostatitis / Urine Infections

Would appreciate any comments on this subject. I have limited Cancer of my Prostate but am plagued with Urine Infections since having Sepsis 2 years ago when I had a Biopsy. It has developed into bad Prostatitis and everything worsened after a TURP which had to be done to pass water and get a Catheter in.  Due to that process I now have incontinence and constant dribbles, no erections and no ejaculation.  My question is if my Prostate was removed is their anything else I could suffer from in this area, but would it rid me of infection and the dreaded Prostatitis.  Getting so fed up as do not seem to be making a lot of progress.

Hello. My other half has had nothing but trouble since his biopsy 2 years ago. He got prostatitis. But he went on to have brachytherapy for the prostate cancer, in hindsight I think he should have sorted out the prostatitis before undergoing the brachy. 18 months on he has been on antibiotics for about a year, it hurts him to sit for more than about 30 mins, being a farmer with lots of tractor work, this isn't helpful. But he can shift off the part that hurts a little when on the tractor. But the car is much worse. He won't go to visit his first grandson as it is a 4 hour drive and he gets a pain inside his prostate and down one leg.

Aldo every wee burns and it burns up his bottom too. Urine tests come back showing no infection. We are at our wits end. Consultant is unhelpful, he just prescribes more antibiotics which make no difference anymore.

As for your problems they sound like you're at your wits end too.

I would say if you have your prostate removed the infection will more than likely be solved. But the incontinence and impotence will be worse. So I guess it's whether you are prepared for this to happen.

I hope you get your problems solved. I would love a solution for my other half.

    All the best.

Thanks for your kind comments.  It would seem Sepsis lowers your ability to fight infection hence the Prostatitis. I think there are a number of us with similar problems, and I can't stand potholes in the car with the jarring which leads to looking for a layby for relief !.  The big question I mull over is how much worse could the incontinence and impotence be, and wonder if someone can throw light on the worse scene possible to know what the gamble is.

I was on a catheter for 30 weeks waiting for a laparoscopic radical prostatectomy.  During this time I suffered infections and bleeding from the catheters.  The biopsy 13 weeks into the wait showed an aggressive cancer gleason score 7.  Removal did stop the infections, but due to ripe grapefruit size of prostate being removed, severe incontinence has resulted due to a damaged sphincter.  Get the cather and prostate out ASAP before collateral damage increases would be my suggestion.

Thanks for your comment, fortunately I have not had a catheter since January but infections in urine never seem to stop. One Consultant says pain in Prostate is nerve pain, but not inclined to agree. getting more to thinking Prostate should go. But worried that I struggle to pass water at night, but not bad in the day so will say nothing and keep going as I hate the pain from catheter.  Can your sphincter be repaired ?.
