prostate massage and effectiveness of flomax

Posted , 4 users are following.

i have visited uro for my urinary symptoms. he did finger test and noted that my prostate is enlarged. the test was quite painful. i have pretty high pain tolerance but this was pretty intense, burning like sensation. i asked about that and he said not to worry, that he in fact did prostate massage. now i have read some about prostate massage, but i didnt find any reference to it being painful, actually it is supposed to be "pleasure". i am pretty confused about what i have experienced. i am 41 btw, otherwise healthy.

also, doc prescribed flomax to help with my symptoms. for those who started using it, how long does it take to see any benefits? i have been on it for over 2 weeks and all i have is negative side effects.

thanks

I had a same experience. My urologist sent me to pelvic physio. Since then, the message has not been bad. As for Flomax, all I got was side effects including RE. So I stopped and endure the symptoms of BPH. Pelvic floor muscle exercise helps to certain degrees. I am taking Pygeum now.

    Cavo,

If you have intense burning pain from the DRE, it could indicate prostatitis or bacterial infection. Usually with bacterial infection you also have burning in the urethra when urinating. You doctor can check your urine for bacterial infection. I had a doctor who massaged my prostate and collected the discharge on a microscope slide. He looked at it under a microscope, and diagnosed bacteria in the prostate, or prostatitis. It was painful when he did the massage. He prescribed an antibiotic based on the bacteria he saw with the microscope. It cleared up in a couple weeks.

thomas, i do have a very mild burning when urinatin, but only sometimes. my main symptom is constant sensation of needing to pee, its felt as itching or wet feeling at the tip of penis.

i went on course of bactrim but it did nothing.

I think you should have seen benefit from Flomax within a few days. Sounds like it is not working for you. I was on it for a couple of years, but could not tolerate the side effects.
