Please help
hi, a little advice is needed
I have been having pain in my lower abdomen, pelvis, anus and Penis. I have visited my doctor on a few occasions. about 3 week ago I told my doctor I suspect it may be a prostate issue. I had a rectal examination and indeed I had an enlarged prostate. I was given 2 weeks of antibiotics (ciprofloxacin) and told to return last week, over the 2 weeks I did notice some slight improvement and I started feeling a bit more positive that we were on the way to recovery. I returned to see the doctor and was given a further fortnight prescription of the antibiotics. however as this week has progressed I have slipped back into constant pain, the tip of my penis seems to be feeling it the worst this time, it really is quite painful at times.
does anyone have any insight into my problems and or any advice. I am back at the doctor on Thursday but not sure I can go that long if this pain doesn't ease off
thank you

I had very painful DRE, like you did, doc did massage at the same time but didnt collect sample. he also said it feels smooth and normal but somewhat enlarged.
he prescribed cipro and flomax. i refused cipro right away and he gave me bactrim. neither bactrim, nor flomax did help. doing some research i found alfuzosin (same category as flomax i guess) could do what flomax does without side effects. it does work for me to some extent, maybe clears symptoms 50%.
i am going to ask uro to check prostatic fluid next time i visit, along vith cysto, just to make sure there is nothing in bladder. if everything checks out, my next plan is to try pelvic floor therapy. good luck there and please report back if you manage to find relief.

If your penile pain is a burning sensation, then I recommend you use what worked for me: URAL powder mixed with water. This alkalanises the urine and you should get relief in under 10 mins. The question is if it is available in your neck of the woods...

cheers Barney, I will have a look for some. the penile pain is a constant mild to medium burning pain, which worsens after urination and can be agonizing when sat down for any period of time. I'm from UK so not sure if URAL powder will be available in my area.
cheers

do you also have prostate issues?
I find it insane in the modern world we live in that a swollen prostate is incurable

its certainly something I will discuss if I can get a referral to a urologist.....
... pardon my ignorance but what is PSA?

maybe i missed it but how old are you?
from what i know, among other things i guess, PSA is used to determine the possibility of prostate cancer. once it is raised above "normal" then its a red flag.

I'm 42 years old.
I had full blood tests done, and was checked for prostate cancer, all was fine, and the doctor said my prostate was smooth to touch... however I've not heard mention of PSA, would this have been in my blood tests?
cheers

exactly my age, similar symptoms. and yes, its a blood they need to get your PSA, so might have been included in your blood tests.

they said all blood tests were fine, I had an abnormality in my blood platelet test but I also had a viral infection when all this started so they waited 4 weeks a retested and it came back fine.
how long have you been suffering, was there anything that you think might have triggered it?
cheers

i am over 1 year in. mine started right when i needed to pee after a very cold mountain bike ride. right after, a feeling in the penis started and is pretty much there constantly.
bike ride might have triggered it, not sure though.

it's odd how it seems to effect the penis, I've spoken to people previously who think they are separate issues, but I cant see it, I never had any issues with either and then suddenly I have issues with both

Most docs don't mention the PSA to young ie <55 yo men because historically it was and remians an older man's disease.
If you're worried then have a PSA test and repeat it in 6 mths.
Ensure you do so at the same pathology lab.

I'm fairly confident it's not cancer. in all honesty I think its stress related. I stopped taking the antibiotics just over a week ago, I've been practicing relaxation methods and breathing techniques, trying my utmost to not get stressed out. I've stopped googling symptoms (which was sending my anxiety through the roof) and I would say in a week I feel about 40% better, the pain is still there in all the same places but it's not as severe. I'm hoping if I can carry on on this route I can reduce my symptoms further. I've got some cbd oil and probiotic drinks which I am taking daily so hopefully this will help further

Good to hear. Let us know how you go. A simple test is to see if antiobiotics work. If in 14 days or in some cases 2x14 days they work, then it is clear you may well have an infection. In my case antibiotics failed and that is when everything pointed to cancer

I did 3 weeks and a day on the antibiotics and if anything my symptoms got worse, I'm still trying to relax, have started doing some pelvic exercises and sticking to my previous mentioned routines, I have bad days and good days, we are currently in lockdown in the uk due to covid 19 so my stress levels are up and I'm not been as active so I would say my symptoms have regressed almost back to at their worst, I'm not sleeping very well and all the spare time is making me think more about it which I turn is making it worse. my urologist appointment has also been moved back to july so I'm upset about that too..... just wish I could get some relief from the constant pain

Sorry for the late reply, but I had family matters to attend to.
When you say that antibiotics made things worse, I conclude that they did not work, that is, there was no infection. something else is going on.
As to poor sleep (join the club 😃 ) , make a list of the problems:
you wake up often
you cannot get to sleep
you are up to pee
you are up to eat
you are up to drink
how many times are you up at night
EXACT symptoms and accurate record keeping help enormously in diagnosing.
Stress and anxiety can be managed with the help of a psychologist.
If you cannot see the uro soon, why not look for a general practitioner who specialises in MEN'S HEALTH. This is a new but growing specialisation of GP's and often they are far more informative that the regular GP and are easier to get into to see than a uro.
