I had a PAE in Sept of 2016.  Great success.  My life is normal again after years of struggle.  My PSA was 10.3.  Four months late 5.0.  The skepticism about PAE is mostly driven by Urologists.  I would do it again in a heartbeat if needed.  Dr. Isaacson said should last 3-5 years and possibly longer.  I think IR's will figure out the enlarged medial lobe issue given time.  If entire prostate is enlarged including medial lobe still highly successful.   Dr. Isaacson is at UNC medical center.  He has done nearly 1000.  He and Bagla are the go to guys.

      Hi David,

That is great news. I hope it lasts a seriously long time.

I had my PAE almost three years ago. It  worked fine for two years. i was on flomax twice a day and got off it completely. I started taking 5 mg of Cialis per day a year ago and everything is still working but not as good as it did right after the procedure. I send Dr. Isccason at the UNC medical center a 3T-MRI scan I had done for his review He stated that he could reduce the prostate further. I was the 40th person he preformed this procedure on at that time. He states they now know more and are more aggressive in reducing the size of the prostate. I will probably have it done again in 2019.The cost the first time was 6500 and now the cost is 10,500...my PSA score before the procedure was around 12 and after it was around 3.5 it slowing went back up to 8 which I then had the MRI done and then a biopsy which was clear. For most individuals it looks like 3-5 years is probably the best one can expect from this procedure.

follow-up ......I had the PAE procedure on Oct 29th which was 3 years 1day since the first one. Both at Univ. of North Carolina Medical Center.

As of Thursday Nov. 15th until today Nov. 18th I have been peeing fine. Hopefully this will continue and will keep improving. The only small issue I have now is when I hold my pee for awhile then the first part of the process is a quick small volume and then five seconds or so later the full volume starts. it appears every other peeing session has a very strong flow and volume as when I was much younger. The other one is kind of standard. Night peeing is a little slower. So far I am satisfied and maybe this one will last a lot longer than 3 years

      Thank you ed70868,

Im glad your procedure is working well. Can you please specify how much the psa dropped on your last Pae. Do you think Dr. Isaacson has improved since last Pae?

      Thx

The First PAE my PSA dropped from about 12 to 3.4.. It went back up to 8 after two years and the last PSA before the procedure was 7.1

I can not answer you question about improving since it will take another 4 weeks or so to determine if this one worked better than the first one. They stated the present process allows them to be more aggressive in reducing the size of the prostate. He also stated the medium lobe can be reduced with this procedure, others have stated it can not reduce the meduim lobe.. It will take a 3T MRI to determine if the medium lobe was reduced to any degree.

I will have another PSA done in a couple of months to determine how much of a reduction occurred.

I had the PAE procedure done on Oct 29 which is 3 years and 1 day after the last last one. I was told lack last time I had the procedure to do no heavy lifting or serious exercising. Stayed near the Univ.. of North Carolina Medical Center for three nights after the procedure. Smart move since the drive home was 7 hours. .Six days after the procedure I lifted something that I should not have and for the next three hours I had red pee. Drank a lot of water and it cleared up. After 12 days I walked 6 miles and again my pee was red for the next two pee sessions. It cleared up in a couple of hours. The first couple of days after the procedure every so often I would pee a reddish looking tissue. I have had sex 3 times since the procedure and no blood which surprised me since last time I passed blood during sex.

I was advised, since I had some 3 year old flomax pills to take one a day for 3-4 weeks while the prostate heals. Once the pills given for swelling after the procedure were over, I had to take one flomax a day for three days and then off for three days and 3 days on again and then off again. I am peeing but not great at this point. I may have to start flomax again for 3 more days. Monday Nov 19 will be 3 weeks since the procedure. So far so good. Last time it took 5 weeks for everything to settle down so I could get off of flomax and almost a year to get over the effects flomax had on my body after years of use.

Doing fine... Hopefully will get better. Improvement can continue for the first six months. .. Had a PSA test and it came back 3.7. It was 8.1 before.

My first PAE Oct 2015, got me off Flomax and my PSA went from 11 to 3.4 SIze of prostate went from 140 to 97. It took almost a year to get sex back to ok due to long term flomax use.

    This time:

    Urination ok

    Sex is ok

Off of Flomax ...only took it 6 days total after the procedure this time.

Self pay the first time, insurance paid this time..

Most nights I do not have to get up to urinate.
