the answer is a bit complexed but ill do my best to explain. Prostatitis is a diagnosis of exclusions. First have your urologist do a urine test, and semen culture to exclude infection. The most important thing i did was listen to the audio book headache in the pelvis... TRUST ME ON THIS... I had a constilation of symptoms.. Pain in the scrotum, tailbone, anus, penis and so on. But all in the general pelvic area. Symptoms migrate from one week to another. If you freak out they seem to get worse. Alpha blockers, Antibiotics and other meds disnt do s**t for me. saw palmetto for prostate worked wonders and basically understanding the diagnosis put my mind at ease. All symptoms resolved in about 4 months

Thanks - I got as far as stage 2 - semen test - but I can't tolerate the antibiotic that was prescribed - amoxicillin - 6 weeks course 3 *500mg per day. I stuck it for a week but it made my symptoms worse. I have had terrible problems with erythromycin and doxycycline in the past - and frankly I'm scared of them. I'm seeing private urologist tomorrow - I want the prostate removed surgically .

Glad you've cracked it - I tried about 3 months on Quercetin and Saw Palmetto - didn't notice any difference - my infection is enterococcus faecilis apparently

You dont need antibiotics if there is no infection. But in case there is then BACTRIM is your go to. Get that audiobook i mentioned. Or if u have iphone they have podcast about headache in the pelvis. Yoga helped a lot also. BEAT OF LUCK TO YOU BUDDY.

Scheduling a pelvic floor therapy appointment with a pelvic floor specialist this week. Though our symptoms are pretty different, we both had prostatitis symptoms after oral sex. Maybe in our cases a bacteria triggered our pelvic floors to react and get tightened. Antibiotics and other supplements/treatments didnt do s**t for me either. This is the only thing i havent tried.

pelvic floor is great.. its actually the first line of defense for prostatitis in European medicine. Tension in your pelvic floor is most likely the problem that is causing your symptoms. Google " The Wise Anderson protocol" . Youll learn all you need to know..

Thanks - I had a look at the protocol - last year I got checked out by the closest thing I could find to a pelvic floor specialist and he didn't think that was the issue.

I still believe that my underlying issue is fungal infection - even my semen sample came up negative in that direction - but still I think that fungal infection is the only thing which explains why I react so badly to antibiotics - and also why this affliction was apparently brought on by drinking a lot of yeasty beer one day in May 2018. Doctors won't listen - I think antibiotics are fatal to me

I use to think the same thing .. It has to be some kind of undetected virus/bacteria.. I would google for hours and come up with my own diagnosis.. lol Dont fall for that man. My wife is an RN and she literally said it was making my symptoms worse. Once you read it you believe it.. lol If all your tests came back normal more than once and multiple Doctors are telling that you dont have a bacterial infection then its time to relax and let your body begin to heal. Look at non pharmaceutical treatments. Like Pelvic floor therapy by a person that specializes in that field. The more tense you are and the more you are fixated on catastrophizing your symptoms the more your symptoms will get the best of you.. Good luck my friend

I do have a bacterial infection though - "heavy growth of enterococcus faecilis" found in my semen sample - I took Amoxicillin for a week but it just seemed to make e a whole lot worse; notably the horrible burning in my scrotum and the constipation. There's something going on here that doctors don't understand

so if thats what they found then you need a different antibiotic. What did your urologist say?

The urologist is going to get the full report from the hospital lab - on the extract I've seen it said the bacteria was sensitive to amoxicillin and gentamicin. He's going to see if there are other antibiotics beyond these 2 that might be effective.

Gentamicin would have to be administered intravenously in a hospital setting apparently - it's a heavy duty antibiotic with potentially serious side effects Don't know where that leaves me - I wouldn't take Cipro class drugs - far too risky.

The inflammation is much worse following Amoxicillin. I honestly think these drugs are toxic to my system

I've just received a letter from the urologist - on the subject of the enterococcus faecilis he notes that "in the absence of white cells on microscopy the enterococcus could easily have been a contaminant" - if I'd known this I'd never have taken this for me toxic antibiotic in the first place"

      Brilliant
