Prostatitis recovery period

Hi All,
So I've been trying to get rid of prostatitis for the last 3 and a half months now, hard to get a diagnosis but eventually got put on 6 weeks of meds (4 weeks levo, 2 weeks doxycycline). After 6 weeks of up and down in regards to progress, a few days after finishing the script the symptoms got better and urine flow improved (no more retention feeling etc.)
Read about only 5% have bacterial blah blah, but my doc seems to think all prostatitis is caused by bacteria at the beginning. Anyway, symptoms improving but I have also stopped drinking, smoking, eating spicy foods, sitting down for longs periods of time and cut down on sex. From your experience If I lapse and do these things will the prostatitis just come back?
thanks

Thought I'd join in on the updates. I'm still in perpetual recovery, but the last month I've seen huge improvements and I've been able to resume a lot of regular activities that I haven't been able to for awhile.
I'm still on meds, and I'd say the antibiotic I'm currently taking is the main reason for my current stretch of improvement.
It's called monurol, and it's extremely effective for cases of chronic bacterial prostatitis. Unlike other antibiotics this one actually kills bacteria instead of simply stopping growth, it has high tissue absorption, and most importantly there is virtually no cross bacterial resistance. Side effects are also much more tolerable compared to the awful quinnolone class of antibiotics. If you guys suspect continued infection, ask your gp or uro to look into this med.
My uro also has been drinking uvo ursi tea, which seems to be really effective.
Candida man, I'd like to point out that given your situation, it seems like you have not given Antibiotics a chance to work. 7 days of antibiotics will do absolutely nothing against a prostate infection. You need to be on meds for 6-12 weeks minimum! And you will not notice an improvement in less then 2 weeks for sure. By starting and stopping antibiotics you are taking a huge risk by allowing the potential bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics. This is the last thing you want to do. In hindsight you should have stayed with the Bactrim, that almost cured me in the beginning but because I stopped for 5 days in between taking it thanks to a clueless gp it wasn't completely effective because the bacteria became resistant. If I were you, I'd stay away from quinnolones and ask your gp about Monurol.
Good luck and I hope everyone makes a full recovery!

So I've had "prostatitis" for about a year and a half now. I'm only 20 years old which is very depressing and feel like it is ruining my life at the moment. Original symptoms were just pain in the perineul area, espcially after prolonged sitting. Those symptoms eased off over time but about 5 months ago I've developed the urinary symptoms. Frequent urination, weak urine flow and feeling like urine is stuck in the urethra after urination. I've been on all the meds under the sun, and had a urethrogram to check for stricutres... none found. Does ANYONE have similar symptoms and can offer me advice? Would really apprecieate it.

I know I've been saying this alot on this thread but it would really be worth checking in with a chiro / ortho to check your lower back alignment / any tension in that area. Have you been down this path already?
This is not to say it may be bacterial in origin but as many have commented here, it seems to be quite a 'holistic' condition that can be caused by different factors and treated in different ways.
I had all the symptoms you describe (and still have flare ups) which I believe are being curbed by relaxation, yoga, chiropractor.
I see that others are on long term antibiotic use and this was well work for them as well.
Keep us updated and let's all share methods and updates.
Very best,
M

hi, I'm 23 now, had this for 2 years now. its really terrible and almost ruining my life . slowly I'm learning to manage the condition. However I am very optimistic and hopeful in God, that this year I will conquer this menace.
I want to know how you are now? is it completely healed? which treatment did you follow that produced good result?
my symptoms begun like many others on the thread- burning sensation during urination, waking up countless times to pee, unable to completely empty bladder, tiredness, heart palpitations, etc. masturbation made every thing worse at this stage.
Later.... feeling of golf ball down there, urgency to pee, constipation.
Prostatitis affects the way bowels are passed: Stool sizes and quantities. Now I clearly determine flare ups when constipation and bowel problems arise. Also feeling of fullness in the abdominal region. slight pain during urination.
taking combo saw palmetto, pumpkin seed, zinc supplement now.

I've been scouring the internet and going to a urologist desperately seeking answers. For about a year now I have the constant urge to urinate, kinda in the tip or lower half of penis, even right after I go the urge comes back.
1. I use to take antibiotics for acne. I was on them for a while but have been off them for about 6 years. Maybe this caused the good antibodies to be killed from the gut causing this problem.
2. I masturbate for long periods of time watching porn on the internet. I think this may also have something to do with it.
The urologist, after ruling out UTI, overactive bladder, and STD, is now going with prostatitis ( bacterial) so he obviously put me on antibiotics, bactrim. Ive been on it for 3 days and have to be on it for 6 weeks.
The urge to urinate 24/7 is awful, its never off my mind. If anyone has had these symptoms and found some way to help I would greatly appreciate.
The pelvic floor relaxation exercises sound interesting, and if the antibiotics don't work I can try that. I tried doing them on my own but have no idea if I'm doing them right. I in recent days have slightly changed my diet, and never ate much sugar anyway. I will almost try anything at this point.
Because I think this has something to do with the long masturbation sessions. I heard cutting out orgasms for a while could help, been cold turkey for about 3 weeks.
This just down right sucks!!!! And hearing that guys have had this for years is really disheartening. Caue I'm on close to a year myself.

I'm 35 year old healthy man.
I don't smoke, I don't drink coffee and never did drugs in my life.
August 29th I started to expérience gross hematuria after a very insane racing spinning class that's what I do regurally.
After words I had a Chinese massage that was intense, the day after I urinated like tea then blood.
I went to the ER they took my urine and blood, they told me its an infection so they put me on cypro for a week.
I kept my normal life since I have never being sick before.
I kept spinning sometimes but I have noticed that after spinning or sex I urinate blood. At a the mean time I saw an urologist todo a CT scan and cytroscopy.
My CT scan came back negative no mass thank god.
When I did my cytro my urologist found out I had inflammation in prostate with friable tissue, that was the source of the bleeding so he put me on cypro for 6 weeks.
I started taking cypro October 8th the day of my birthday.i stopped going to the gym and spinning or doing efforts.
During one week Everything was fine however I had always small clots in my urine after a week I had sex, the ejaculation was a bit odd with little pain just little, so the day after I started to urinate blood day and night and crazy clots for three weeks, after three weeks my urinate cleared up with no more clots and no more blood. I finished the 6 weeks of cypro I was felt good and normal however I used to urinate frequently during the course like 10 to 15 times a day but I was drinking water frequently at least 2 litters a day.
After finishing cypro I started to feel better and I urinate less, I don't have problem with urination or to empty my bladder except when I start to urinate it stops for less then a sec then I urinate everything.
I went to see my urologist, he was glad the fact the blood stopped, no biopsy need it.
He told me to come back to a normal life and do whatever I want. At the mean time I have not had sex neither ejaculated for over 6 weeks now cuz I'm scared.
Anyways so I got back to my routine of work and I actually travel a lot for work like everyday 2 to 4 hours driving in the truck however I don't drive since I have my driver.
I have noticed that I'm starting to feel not comfortable when I sit down and I feel like my prostate is sore and sometimes not comfortable at all. But when I stand up and walk or be active, I feel very awesome.
I have not experienced any sever pain and I hope and I really hope that I won't.
Now I need to see my urologist to tell him about my discomfort when I sit down and that soreness.
If you guys have any suggestions or thoughts I will be glad to hear it.
Hope everyone will have a fast recovery.
Peace!!
