Prostatitis - Wont go away - Given Levofloxacin & Vancomycin

Posted , 10 users are following.

Hello All,

I hope to get some help here. Been suffering from Prostatitis for a year now. I have taken so many medicines with some luck. But the pain and discomfort seems to return.

Today i was just given Levofloxacin along with Vacomycin. I have tried Vaco before and felt great after taken medicine but seem to return.

The reason i was given this medicine was because my Urologist took a DRE sample. He mentioned to me that i could be on this medicine for a while.

Any luck with Levo or Vancomycin?

    hello JHA

I am in the same boat as you

I have been dealing with chronic bacterial prostatitis for 14 months now , in june

2014 I was given 10 days of bactrim and 10 days of clindamycin antibiotics .

In aug i relapsed I was given 4 weeks of bactrim after two weeks i asked to be

switched to some other medication because bactrim made my face turn bright

red , so they put me on 750 mg levofloxacin for 30 days this is were i want to

warn you about any antibiotics in the fluoroquinolone drug class .

three weeks into the levofloxacin i started to get blurred vision in my right eye

i kept on taking the meds thinking i need the full 30 days to beat my condition

then two days before i finished my meds my left wrist begin to hurt really bad

anyway i finished my last two days of meds , after i finished my 30 days of

levofloxacin is when the sh*t really hit the fan . I had muscle spasms all over

my body , blurred vision in my right eye , all my joints hurt very bad i was

Barely able to get to work a co worker of mine covered for me and did most

of my work for 6 months . it took 6 months for me too get over the majority

of the side effects of the levofloxacin , it has been 10 months now and i still

have a little vision problem in my right eye and my right knee still creaks

i am drinking beef bone broth once a day to help heal the tendons .

SO BE VERY CAREFUL OF LEVOFLOXACIN !!!

the doctor and phamacist said nothing of possible side effects

    I was very angry !

so i stopped levofloxacin in oct 2014 , over the next 6 months i was dealing with

the side effects of the medicine it took my mind off my prostatitis condition but in

march and april 2015 i started to have new symptoms ejaculatory dysfunction for

a month then into full erectile dysfunction , i looked it up on google it said both can

be caused by LUTS lower urinary tract symptoms .

in may 2015 the pain started to come back in a big way it took me 6 weeks too

get in to see  my urologist he said he wanted to start antibiotics , i told him the

problem i had with bactrim and levofloxacin and he gave me a prescription for

    chephalexin.

I wanted a second opinion and luckly found a urologist i could see right away

he did a DRE to get expressed prostatic secretion and my white blood count

was high , I still had a prostate infection after telling him about what bactrim

and levofloxacin did to me he prescribed cephalexcin 500 mg 2x a day for

12 weeks and 5 mg cialis for the E.D.

I have a little over 2 weeks left of the cephalexin the 5mg cialis brought my

eractions back . so now i have to wait and see what happens when i get off the antibiotics . if i continue to have problems with chronic bacterial prostatitis

I am going to see an infectious disease specialist then the next step would be

to look into holmium laser prostate surgery ( HOLEP )

      Griff,

I feel your pain my friend. I have been given a crap load of different antibotics. I need to pull the entire list up i have saved on a sheet of paper. I have basically been thrown enough medicine where i feel it can take out a Rhino.

I appreciate you sharing the information on the Levo. My Urologist prescribed me 750 mg 1 X day for 21 days. Im also taking Vancomycin as well for two weeks. I have tried Cipro as well (but no luck).

But yes i read about Levo (and Cipro as well) and knew that it can affect the Tendons anywhere on the body. Especially the feet and ankles. I was told by my GP afew months back about Cipro and not to be active in sports while on the medicine. This also goes for Levo as well. I hope u get better. make sure to take it easy. I read that even after a few months off of Levo or Cipro your Tendons are still very fragile.

Currently other than being on meds i was told to ejaculate frequently. I guess getting the blood flowing through and semen may help get meds to prostate.

So far how are the meds you are currently taking working for you? still having Prostate issues?

As for me still having issues, i described those issues above to whitebeach. Currently alot with Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome and pain at the tip of the penis.

This week i plan to seek acupuncture treatment. Not sure if it will help or not but i read it has helped other with CPPS. As for the Prostatitis i guess i have to wait to see if meds help.

I have lost alot of hope since i have tried so many meds.

      I hope u get better.

      Hello Griff,

just thought I would let u know I have been taking Levo for a week now. My ankle and achilles is starting to ache, kind of hurts my whole foot too. seema to be only on the right side. Just started today. Going to call the Doc tomm to see if they have a substitute. I'm sure they may prescribe Ciprofloxacin. Which I have taken before with no luck. I know u mention wrist pain but did u get ankle pain? Like the tendons are sore?

The side effects i had from levofloxacin / levaquin were severe pain in

both my wrists , elbows , shoulders , knees , ankles , muscle cramps

muscle spasms , blurred vision in my right eye .

I was basically crippled for 3 months and it took me 6 months to get

over 95% of the the symptoms that i was having .

SO BE VERY CAREFUL OF ANY QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS

ONES THAT END IN CIN . LIKE LEVOFLOXACIN , CIPROFLOXACIN !!!!

      Hello Griff,

      Sorry to hear that.

I am currently having pains on the right foot, now its moved over a little bit to the left foot. Also now im starting to feel a bit on the wrist as well.

But i stopped taking the meds. Im not sure if he is going to prescribe a substitute. Im worried he is going to prescribe Cipro. I have taken it before twice and had no issues. But who know this time it could be different. Make my symptoms worse.

Just on a side note i began taking Acupunctur today hoping to get some relief on my Chronic Pelvic Pain.

Hey bro I feel your pain try metrodizole 500 mg and cipro and doxcycline ....metrodizole 500mg kills trichomoniasis and its a parasite that most women carry ..doc will never do a test just say your gf has it and if you read about it cause prostatis... cipro for regular uti and doxcycline for chylimidia and gonhrea...if you got the new strand of gonhrea that is not curable try gentamicin 500 mg or get the shot this will kill the new strand with azithromycin 2 pills.... believe when it comes to a battle I never give up so you don't give up...

      Hello Jeff,

I have actually tried Metrodizole, well technically it was Flagyl. I have also tried 2 rounds of Cipro. And Doxy was the first medicine given to me. I do think it was trichomoniasis that may have given this to me.

Because before i got Prostatitis (5 months before) i had sex (March 2014) and got some type of bacteria infection. I got tested for STDs and blood work but all came back negative. I was given10 days of Doxy, Z-Pak (azithromycin) followed by some Flagyl (for tricho) and boom went away after 3 weeks..

Then 5 months later (August 2014) was hit with issues again after i had sex. I was wearing protection both times, but i learned that dont mean anything. Since then i have been on so many medicines and constant pain.

I have some good days (which Im thankful for) and have some bad days. But mainly bad

New Gonhrea not curable? I have not heard about this. But actually i was given Gentamicin. I was given multiple shots. I sometimes felt some relief. But please be carefull with the Gentamicin. I had to many shots and it affected my galbladder and eventually had to be removed. Doc doesnt think it affected my Galbladder but i know my body pretty well and everytime i got a shot my body would freak out.

I dont think i have tried a azithromycin (Z-pak) since i have been diagnosed with Prostatitis.

Did you have Prostatitis? Did Urologist get a DRE sample?

Jha0024 I my self got my gallbladder removed from antibiotics and poping them like crazy I can relate...but I think this was because back then I worked 2010-2013 as a corrections officer for state prison...which I no longer work after three years and had a bad alcohol problems....hated that job now work in ac and getting my brokers lincense...I have gotten a dre doc will say it alittle big / swolen, and go get a Psa as well it is important to know anything over 4.0mg I will worry... stress is also a factor try to relax without pain meds or alcohol or muscle relaxers...all can cause urine retention and intensify ur prostate... try crushing up some of your antibiotics to a fine powder and use a syringe and use bottled water and mix with antibiotic and then slowly absorb the mix liquid into syringe and pull your for skin back ...open up your pee hole slowly and slowly push down the syringe and you will feel the fluid mixture doWn the urthera and slowly reaching the prostate....sometime you will get left over mixture remember repaeat with left over mixture and hold penis up if fuilds mix is coming up the pee hole..pinch the pee hole and message the fluid thats trapped in urthera down towards prostate. the prostate has tiny tiny pocket holes which is where the prostate fuild comes out when we ejaculate... the whole point of doing this to get antibiotics into the areas to stop the infection and get it directly... this helped me too I became desperate and I Google prostate atanomy and found out the prostate has tiny tiny glandular holes...which gave me the idea to shove medication down there

Guys just be careful with the antibiotics  I used them last year to get rid of the bladder infection I had. On top of that I got food poisoning.  Ended up with Sepsis.  It did its job so well I had nothing to fight the food poisoning.  Thinking it was the flu.  I took flu meds.  The sepsis was in my blood steam for 6 to 8 weeks was in acute kidney failure.  Doctor told me another week I could have died.  Had IV's treatments for 20 days.  Please take care  Ken

Just be careful..I think I took that for 7 days for a infection.  Did not care for it.  If it bothers you stop it and tell your doctor  Take care  Ken

      Ken,

Doc told me he is not going to give me other meds. Just told me to finish the Vancomycin and we are to have a follow up here pretty soon. I dont think he wants to give me Cipro or Levo since the tendons could get worse.

Just be careful with the meds. And don't let him talk you into anything  Ken

      Hello Kenneth,

I had my follow up on Friday. Well it did not go well. I told him the Vancomycin did not help. Also I had to stop the Levofloxacin after 7 days since my achilles on my right foot started to hurt (tendon). He prescribed me Amoxicillin for 14 days and wants to do a CT scan of the lower area.

I am thinking about seeking another opinion. I think this Urologist has done everything he can do. II am not getting better at ALL. Its realyl starting to drive me nuts.

      Thanks
