Hi Christine, You really need to find out why you are having to use PPIs in the first place, if its only been a few weeks you have been taking it, AND it is NOT for ACID OR REFLUX, you can cut back quickly w/o side effects: cut back by half for a week or two, then see if you can go lower....If it IS for acid, &/or you have been taking it longer, YES, you should cut back to 20mg for 2-3 weeks and then after that try e/o day for a few weeks, then try stopping...Has your Dr looked into symptoms?and if he said you didn't need it, why did they give it to you?if it is an acid problem, they could have used an H2 blocker, like famotidine, etc by itself or with a PPI, you could even switch to that if you still have symptoms, so you need to find out...you need to clarify these issues with your DR but, sometimes with things like gastritis, infection, ulcers...they put you onto PPIs to protect the stomach as it heals, then you stop taking them and you can safely go off them if it has NOTHING to do with acid or reflux...so ask your DR...WHAT'S UP HERE? GOOD LUCK & BEST WISHES💒♾💞🌈🎶🐾🍀☮

thank you, i do need to have a chat with the doctor. im so unhappy with him that i think i might find a new one. his story changes, like be doesnt follow what my pathology report indicated. i tried weaning off the PPI myself. thats what took me to the ER... totally my fault, but he ordered a higher dose while in the hospital.. and now im stuck on it.

i appreciate your input, thanks again
