Protruding ‘rectal material’?

I’m a 21 year old woman with a healthy diet and no history of bowel movement issues or recent surgeries. About a day and a half ago, I noticed what seems to be swollen skin or something coming out of my rectal area. I tried to push it back in, but it feels inflamed and uncomfortable to touch. It doesn’t stay in when I push it back in, either. 

I’m not sure what this is, but if anyone had insight, would he greatly appreciated. It’s difficult to get an appointment with my doctor without a few weeks’ notice. I’ve been hoping it would go away on its own, but this is the second morning I’ve woken up with it just the same as ever. 

I don’t believe it’s a hemorrhoid and rectal prolapse seems to be an issue more related to older inidividuals with bowel movement issues. 

Would greatly appreciate any helpful insight!

    Hi Caroline, it sounds as though it could be a skin tag, or even a polyp. Beast to have your doctor have a look if you’re not sure.
