    Hi,

?Ok, this sounds so much like me! I just turned 45 and have been bleeding between periods for 6 months now. Mine is normally during ovulation but I am also a runner and running often brings it on, especially if it's mid cycle. It's been driving me crazy, I am so worried and depressed.

?I had the internal scan which showed a fibroid and possibly a polyp but they weren't sure so sent me for a hysteroscopy (the camera thing). My cervix is pointing back and was also very tight, plus their computer/monitor crashed during the procedure so I had to wait for ages for them to restart it. She said the fibroid was in the way so she couldn't properly see everything. I had to book another appointment with someone else which is next month but at least the first one managed to get a biopsy. After 4 agonising weeks of waiting, I just got a letter to say the biopsy was normal although I still have to go back for them to attempt a better hysteroscopy.

?Just to let you know, I was really scared of the biopsy as they warned me it could hurt but I took some ibuprofen before the appointment and just felt some very mild cramps, almost nothing so please don't worry about that. I hope it goes well for you.

?Have you noticed anything that triggers your bleeding?

    ?Keep me posted x

Finally had the biopsy on Friday and was given some hormone tablets to take for 6-8 weeks but they made me have really bad pins and needles so stopped taking them after a day at my next review The gyno will be discussing having my lining of womb done which will make my periods lighter anyone had this done no idea of the correct term for it

My periods have always been heavy but have got even worse in the past 2-3 years so I presume it's perimenopause.

A bit annoyed as the Dr kept offering me the coil and that's the last thing I want. I just want to know what's causing it all

jo4848  as you say probably perimenopause  the heavy periods,  I was the same, so bad was having to use both tampons and pads and couldn't go out sometimes, Ok the menopause brings with it  other things but oh the freedom of no more periods is lovely. I found agnus custus tablets helped with the bleeding.

    Hi both,

Yes, same, maxi tampons and pads. Running or gym is out of the question which is fair enough but like you both say, sometimes I am scared to go out . I am a teacher and the fact that I can just go anytime scares me!

I was prescribed some tablets for it but the side effects scared me so I then decided to try ibuprofen which many claim helps with the heavy bleeding. Apparently it stops some hormone-like substance which makes us bleed more being produced (look it up). I didn't even take a large dose but this really worked for me and made a dreaded super heavy day 3 manageable ( we were flying home from holiday and I was so worried about being on the transfer bus for 90 mins with no toilet).

In my desperation I also went and bought some period knickers which give you extra confidence.

Can't wait for the freedom of no periods!
