i understand each ssri affects everyone differently but i just want to hear input

i have been currently taking lexapro at 20 mg and klnopin 2 mg daily for almost 4 weeks. these medicines havent really been benefical for me and i have not noticed anything and havent experienced any side effects as of yet

i will be starting prozac next week. my doctor wants me to start with 10 mg week 1, 20

mg week 2, 30 mg week 3, 40 mg week 4.

my main issue has been reccurent panic attacks that have been more severe. my last panic attack i was hyperventilating nonstop for more than an hour until the doctor at the er gave me 1 mg of xanax. the xanax seemed to calm me down but it has been four weeks and i feel as if im constanly short of breath

i have ocd tendicies and keep focusing on my breath anyone with similar issues have found prozac to be beneficial in this regard?

You won't feel any benefit from Lexapro of any other SSRI within 4 weeks - you need to give these type of meds months not weeks, There is no hurrying them at all. It took me 6 months on Citalopram and some people take a little quicker, some longer.

Also most people feel worse before getting better which is quite normal.

Don't hop from meds to meds chasing recovery as it can make things worse. Starting meds and coming cannot be done quickly and these meds work real slow.

    Give it time.

thank you for your response kate. my doc believes im better suited for prozac since i also have ocd and prozac is used to treat ocd where as lexapro isnt how is it usually done to safely switch medicines?

OCD is often a side effect of anxiety and can manifest itself in various ways, often with obsessive thoughts.

If you've only been on meds 4 weeks then it shouldn't be too difficult in swapping meds and your Doctor might cross-taper them - which means reducing the meds on one and introducing the other at a small dose, and slowly changing the doses of both over time until you're completely on the new meds and the other one stops.

Listen to KATE. i have suffered from anxiety and depression for 18 years. KATE is absolutely correct because i take abilify and prozac. it took 12 weeks for it to actually fully kick in. i am now feeling better than i have in months. keep your head up. listen to your doctor always. peace and love!!!

thank you for the reply albert. i understand it takes a while for some medicines to kick in but my doctor believes the prozac benefits out weighs the benefits that lexapro can provide.

quick question: have you noticed any side effects while on prozac?
