prozac making ocd worse....

Hi everyone,

would love some advice from anyone that has ever been on prozac. I started pozac 4 week and 3 days and my ocd which was moderate has got so bad I'm on the verge of giving up on these tablets. A few people have said to me the start up effects from prozac are worsening of symptoms but it seems to be never ending. Has anyone experienced this? Should I keep taking them?

I saw a documentary on prozac and affects a lot of people differently. I should get a specialists opinion about your case before stopping them.

Prozac is what elderly care is run on in the States nearly all of the elderly homes there have their own doctor and invariably prescribe Prozac just to manage them it seems.  I too was on prozac many years ago now under one of its other names Paroxetine OMG it fair drove me up the wall in the after 5 days of hell I went back to the doctor he did tests and it seems I was not suitable for SSRI's so if you still are haveing problems seek your doctors advice.

I haven't been on Prozac Socks but Citalopram did the same to me. I was on it years ago and it worked great but this time I had 8weeks of hell. I'm not sure why. I am now on another med but it's early days.

I know a a lot of medications can make you feel worse before you get better and with each increase. Have you recently changed your dose?

I would defiantly speak to your doctor and see what he has to say. Maybe they need adjusting or changing xx

We all respond differently to drugs, what suits one person may not suit another.  Prozac was defibietly the worse drug I ever took.  Countless side effects, terrible.  I had to stop it within a few days as made me so bad.  I would have thought after 4 odd weeks you would be feeling some benefit, but it may be that Prozac is not the right drug for you.

I would suggest you go back to the doctor and tell them how you are feeling.

all antidepressants effect people differently, by 4 weeks i would of expected for the start up side effects would have worn off by now. i can only say from my personal experience of prozac is that it gave me a manic episode on a low dosage which i havent found in sertraline. it may be that the prozac is elavating your activities like it did mine. are you experiencing any other symptoms like are you eating/sleeping less, are you happier, do you talk faster or making risky choices at all?
