prozac-need dosage help

Posted , 4 users are following.

hi, i have been on prozac for 5 weeks at 60 mg. i was previously on 150 zoloft and switched directly to pro. i am wondering if my dose is too high (or i am still anxious and it's too low) i get jittery throughout the day, at random times. i don't drink caffeine, yet it feels like i had a ton of coffee. i am not sure if it's the pro or i am really anxious and the pro isn't working as it should. i am not really anxious about anything except why i feel this way.

has anyone experienced this? did it go away? thoughts on the doseage?

thanks!

Its common for the body to go through withdrawal symptoms like you are experiencing with Zoloft. It's been 2-1/2 months since I got off Prozac and I have that anxious feeling most of the time. Don't rule out possible side effect of anxiety caused by Prozac. It could be either or both causing this to happen.

how long were you on it? i thought since i switched from one ssri to another, i wouldn't have any withdraw issues. i am wondering if the dose is just too high and it's causing me to be jittery? i guess i don't really know and it's such an annoying feeling!!

That is a very high dose to start on. 20mg is the usual starting dose even if you are switching from another SSRI. I was switched too and started on 20mg for nearly 4 months and have just gone to 40 a couple weeks ago.

Also you will still get some withdrawal from the Zoloft. Even though you changed to a similar med they are still different.

I would suggest going back to your dr and asking for your dose to be lowered even just for a month or 2 so your body has time to adjust.

is it? it does seem high but she said it was comparable to 150 zoloft. i think i should go down to 40. i still have some breakthrough tremors, etc. which SSRI were you on before pro? do you feel better so far?

Even if it does compare to that much Zoloft it's still a different drug and you should have been tapered down on the zoloft while being tapered up on the Prozac. Even if you were on 150 Zoloft you still shouldn't have been started on 60mg Prozac.

I was on Lexapro 20mg. Tapered down then started Prozac on 20mg for 3 months 30mg for a couple weeks now 40mg the last 3 weeks. Even though lexapro 20mg is equivalent to 40mg Prozac I was still tapered up.

Since being on 40 I feel better.. not totally back to normal but a lot better than I was!!
