PRP for BXO

I am 60 and was diagnosed with BXO about a year ago.  I started treatment with mild steroids and was upgraded to the club a couple of months later.  The club cleared the redness (I did not have white spots) but some symptoms remained included a feeling of a constant irritated penis.

When the redness returned at the end of last year, I had read so many good things about PRP that on a whim I decided to try it.  I found a local "P" shot provider who was a nurse practioner that is connected with the creator of the P shot, Dr Runnels.  So far, I have had three different series of shots and while it has helped, I am not certain its worth the high price.  My symptoms have improved but I still have areas of slight redness.  I also get tingling sensations a lot. I was told it would take two shots and fortunately they have only charged my for the initial visit.  It was 1900 dollars. As I sit here typing I wonder if I should go back to normal treatments like the clob on a consistent basis but applying it differently.  Its been 5 months since the initial treatment and in that time I have occasionally used the clob when the redness was more evident.  I am confused and concerned for what may happen in the future but still hold out a little hope that the PRP will work.  A study that was done in Europe said that 45 out 45 men undergoing that BXO study did not have to return to steroids and that improved drastically.  I wonder how accurate that is.

May I ask what BXO is,?

Thank you, I have reading a bit on the PRP and will see a Immunologist Dermatologist and am going to ask him what he knows of the treatment. This is such an unpleasant thing, it is hard to know what to do or where to go...keep your chin up...

Who is following you for this condition?

I see a two dermatologists.  The urologist I was seeing dropped me as a patient because I did PRP without consulting him.  Apparently he did PRP.  I did not know this at the time but he did PRP shots, so was he upset because I did not do PRP with him or that I did it.   Insurance does not cover and anyone who does this procedure seems to be ready at a moments notice to do it.  The cash money is the draw.

Sorry to hear the Urologist treated you that way. He is not the right doc for you if he dropped you like that, he is all about the money. Find a smart caring one..  Do you find the Derm guy has done alotfor you?

Hi Sterias, thanks for sharing your personal journey with us on BXO. Sorry you too have to go through this horrible condition. I too have it for the past 3 years and it's an absolute nightmare to deal with. I don't know what to think of the p-shot. I have made contact with a few clinics in the UK but I am not totally convinced it fully heals anything, it simply makes the condition more bearable for a few months or a year and then you go back for a popup. That's what I've found out from my very limited research. It's a huge amount of money as well which I wouldn't think twice about if I knew something was going to work but I've yet to be fully sold on PRP. It's on my list of things to try further down the line though.

It has helped.   I had what was termed a mild case, but it was major to me.  I am still working with the provider as they said they want to track my case. I will try and update my progress.

I would check with the Derm guy to make sure of whether you should do the Clob still...it might get you in remission..

I was hoping to avoid a strong use of steroids (for a month or so) in the hopes that PRP would work on its own and that the remission would be for a longer term. My provider of PRP wishes I would avoid steroids to see if PRP works.   The redness now is noticeable but not bad and my other symptoms are pretty much in check.  So I go back and forth on whether I should just do the steroids to rid myself of the redness.  I have been told that I can still use steroids with PRP.

Tough decisions on what to do. My preference would be no steroids if I had a choice which I do not.  How long do they think before they assess a success or different? This whole thing has changed my lifestyle.

Hey, I’d love an update on how your symptoms are doing now after PRP. Have you noticed further recession of symptoms since your initial post?

I’m thinking about PRP more and more for my BXO, so am very keen to learn more

No, the redness continues, although no other symptoms are present.  I was told it could take several treatments before all symptons are gone.  The place I get treatments has offered me a discount for future treatments which I will likely do given how much I have invested.  Do you have redness (inflammation) or white areas?

As long as there is improvement they encourage me to continue.  My condition seems to change daily so hard to figure.  I will say that the discomfort I had before the treatments is much improved.

I have the white ring on foreskin that infamously causes Phimosis and some mildly red patches on the glans. I also have peeling white skin on the glans but no scar tissue yet. How many treatments have you had in total so far? I’ve heard that it takes around 3 to get an optimum result. Are you still using steroid creams as well?

I have had three treatments.  The nurse said it could take several more.   Yes I am, to try and control redness.
