PS surgery done last week in Montréal... my experience.

I've been reading this web page all afternoon. I'm a 26 y.o. male from Montreal and have been diagnosed in March with PS infection that was deeply inflamated. My surgeon drained it and put me on antibiotic. It healed quite quickly but the PS was still there, latent.

As discussed with him, I went through the open wound surgery exactly one week ago, I had an epidural done and the surgery went perfectly well. They sent me home and the nurse came over for the first couple of days to change the packing. So far so good. But, I need you to know that it hurts so much, I can't even qualify the pain that this operation makes, the smells, the every day continuous pain that you have to endure. And it hasn't been better for one day since my operation sad Thank god my surgeon prescribed codeine 30 pills for me (strong painkillers), I wouldn't be able to make it.

Everyday a nurse cleans the area and changes the packing and they seem to be very happy of the development. Let's just hop it heals quickly. I'm also so worried about the healing time and all these horrible experiences I've been reading on your web page, my surgeon seemed to mention that ager 6-8 weeks I should be 100% restablished. I've been put off work for 4 weeks and we should reassess that soon.

wish me luck and I wish all of you going through the same thing best of luck (argh can't wait to get done with this).

I know how you feel mate. I had this surgery on 20th september and can agree with you that the pain is a difficult experience. I also have my wound packed by a nurse every day but apart from that i do pretty much nothing all day, even the most basic activities such as walking are painful and uncomfortable. I wish you all the best anyway and a speedy recover, i certainly hope i have one

Well good luck to you too my friend. I'm so bored, I live by myself, I'm not working and I've never surfed the internet so much in my life... Thank god my friends and my significant other are taking good care of me, when they can.

I went to this webpage dreaming that I was in a house in the UK instead of Montreal for my recovery, it would have given me another perspective and could've been instructive...

Anyways... I'm on codeine right now and about to go take a nice evening nap...

    Ciao

PS: pain is still there but a little less. The wound is still big, the nurse just told me that...

Hi, it brought me to tears reading your story i know excatley how you feel. In febuary 09 i came down with this ps within 3 days i was at hospital having an op to remove the ps. Words are not enough to dicribe the pain i felt after recovery, the throbing, stinging, cramp are only a few world to explain how i felt.

You was very lucky that a nurse came to you i had to undergo the pain of sitting in the car to get to my surgury and then standing and waiting was great!!! Then the pain of the packing all i could ever do was scream and scream and scream.

weeks of work (am a hairdresser) went by and the hole was not getting any smaller, but the doctors said it was fine and healing well!!!! in the April i got maried and managed to have the best day of my life with my husband. We went on honeymoon to cuba and the flight was the most painfull thing in the world sitting for 10hrs!!!! but we still manged to have agreat time i promised myself i would not let it spoil this one thing.

After we got back i went back the docs and got it checked out, the y said it was fine! a week alter i was not happy and went back it was weeping and smelly, anti-bioties away i went. Still not happy i went back and they said i needed to go back to hospital. A month past of the most discomfort i could cope with finally a consultaion appointment. Then another month went past of pain anger dicomfort constant crying finally about a month ago i had it operated on again. This time a drain was placed and the area was stitched up. This time the pain is somehow diffrent still sp painfull words cant explain. I had the drain removed after 48hrs then in 2 days it was so painfull to anything i felt like i was back to febuary all over agin, i went staright the the doctors to discover an infection!!!! some stitches had to be removed to allow the puss and blood to drain. oh i feel sick thinking of that day, hoepflly they will remove the other stitches 2morow and i will start to get better. I truley feel for anyone who has this going on i can only wish you all the vey best with your recovery.

A word of advice just dont leave it push and push and push to get seen.

Sorry your experiences have been so bad.

On 18 September I had mine removed (in England) with Bascom Cleft Closure which I understand is quite new. It is great.

Within half an hour of coming round I was told I could go home, 24 hours later I had the drain removed.

Bit of discomfort (like a bruise) and wondering why I have to take 4 weeks off work.

Within a week I felt like I could play golf, but am advised not to do sport for 5-6 weeks.
