PSA after RT treatment and being on HT

Hello all, I had biopsy done on OCT 2016 Gleason 8.  Did RT 44 treatments ending Jan 16, 2017,  The PSA 1 month after treatment was 2. then every three months it finally got down to 0.49 in Jan of 2018.  This last time was done just recently was 0.458.

It has leveled out and not gone down much. After reading some of the similar cases like mine it seems like the PSA should be 0.2 or less.  Anyone have any comments about this?

not an expert, but i think the doubling time of psa levels is what u have to monitor carefully.tho that may be after RP, not sure. considering u still have your gland and normal psa = <4.0, slightly higher if u have BPH, i wouldn't lose sleep on psa under 1.0 but check with your uro-oncologist.

You should be pleased with your results - and I am sure your Oncologist would agree. Your PSA is heading in the right direction. Your results are very similar to mine - same Gleason and similar PSA pattern. I would warn you about the 'bounce' - an unexpected spike in PSA following RT. The reasons are not fully understood but the readings go down again.

?I am very pleased with my choice of RT - as I have explained on another thread.

    Good luck!

Hi David,, paid a visit to urologist and he did say it was ok but he also said another shot of HT which will bring up to 2 years on HT.  He said after that he would monitor closely.  He said I was intermediate to high risk whatever that means.

    Hi John,

The fact that your PSA is stable is a good sign. When I was first treated mine got down to between 0.2 and 0.3 and stayed there for almost six years. It started to increase after that. It was approx. 8 years from the start that I again went onto Zoladex at PSA 13.0. It seems the rate of increase in PSA is the deciding factor after you have undergone your treatment. Your results I would say are very promising. Good Luck

HI Glam, I hope you are right about it being stable.  In 8 years I will be 86.  Every year since 1999 I had my PSA checked which was 3+ . Somehow maybe because of insurance I don't know but a year was skipped then when it was checked in Aug 2016 all of sudden it was 9 or something like that.  Can't remember for sure but it spiked.  It took me a month to get in to Urologist then another to do biopsy, then another week or two to get started on HT.  Now I am wondering if the PSA is low because of being on HT or if the Rad was successful. I don't know where I stand. All I know is I'm getting older. Frequent urination, hot flashes make it tough to sleep at night but I manage.
