Pseudocyst question

Posted , 2 users are following.

I am told that my Pancreas is looking much better but that I have a pseudocyst the size of an orange on the head now.

Has anybody been through pseudocyst removal?  What can I expect?

Thanks in advance!

Wow, tharts huge. Did they say they were going to do the Whipple Procedure or are they able to just remove the cyst?

I had the Whipple done 2 yrs ago, it's a rough surgery, 10 hours to do it. The head of my pancreas was calcified and hard as a rock, no cancer but the head had to be removed. Stay away from the Whipple if you can, the survival rate is about 30 percent, although most of that is cancer.

Also Dan, after the Whipple I still have chronic pancreatitis, the Drs said they can take the rest out and I would be a diabetic for life or leave it and take opoid pain meds the rest of my life. The Dr all agreed that leaving it and taking the pain meds is the best option.

sorry I don't know much on cyst but thought the info on the Whipple may be helpful.

Thank you for the information Rick.  I've heard of the Whipple procedure but I'm not familiar with it.  I will certainly keep that in mind.

The GI is meeting with a surgeon this week to decide what to do.  I'm feeling great so it sounds like one course of action would be to just leave it alone and let it resolve itself.  Problem is that my liver enzymes are slightly elevated and they are thinking that this is the cause.

Sounds like you should be good. The Whipple is basically a re-plumbing job on your digestive track. They remove part of the stomach, part of the liver, take off the head of the pancreas and remove some of the small intestine.

Then they use the small intestine to re-plumb the insides. They conmect the intestine to the stomach, liver, bypass the pancreas and connect back to the  small intestine. They leave the middle and tail of the pancrease to produce insulin, if they remove it I would be a diabetic for life.

That's why the surgery is 10'hours and dangerous, I don't know your age but I was 48 yrs old and it about got me........

stay away from it if you can
